All Eyes on Rooney
Manchester United fans are disappointed. They ended up losing 2 points on Saturday against West Bromwich Albion (West Brom). They dropped to 4th position following the draw at the weekend. However, this may not be the only major concern for the
MU armour and its fans. Reports are suggesting that MU’s striker Wayne Rooney is all set to move out of Old Trafford.
There have been widespread speculations about Rooney’s fall out with the Red Devil’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson - the long serving Scotsman who has won 11 Premier League titles. Rooney is not willing to sign any new contract with MU as he is delaying that
for a while now. The contract expires by the end of the next season.
The British media has been reporting numerous accounts of fallout between the striker and manager. This may come as a surprise to the Red Devil fans as the two shared a strong relationship and Ferguson has always considered Rooney as his most important and
prized asset. Manchester United have strongly denied the reports as “non-sense” but the fact that Rooney has been sitting out on the benches in the last matches points to something else.
The relationship between the two of them has been falling apart since tabloid reports emerged surrounding Rooney’s private life. Details of Rooney’s alleged infidelities came to light in early September 2010 when the striker decided not to suppress the allegations.
However, his lawyers tried to fight the allegations when they first surfaced in August 2010.
The relationship was further deteriorated when Rooney directly contradicted Sir Alex’s claim that he has been suffering from an ankle injury last week. Although Ferguson is yet to give any official statement regarding the speculations but it was made clear
to all and sundry when Rooney was left out in the match against West Brom. He only made an appearance in the game as a substitute in the 72nd minute.
Fans suggest that this action of Sir Alex is the last straw but the fact remains that the relationship between the two has gone sour for some time. The news has surprised MU’s avid followers, especially when during the last season; Rooney was the top scorer
for MU with 34 goals. However, this season Rooney has scored only a single goal - that too from the penalty spot but Rooney remains Old Trafford’s favorite as was witnessed by the chanting for Rooney during the West Brom match.
The fact remains that Rooney is not at loss. If reports are to be believed then the likes of Barcelona and arch rivals Manchester City would be eyeing on the striker.
If Rooney does not want to sign a new deal with MU then the management must find out the reason for the fallout and sort it out. If the striker does not want to renew the contract then MU must be on their toes to name his successor. They must also be aware
that Rooney’s price can take a plunge considerably if he is not sold before the start of the next season.
The next match for Manchester United is in the Champions League against Turkish champions Bursaspor. All eyes would be on Sir Ferguson’s starting line-up. If Rooney is not there, then it would be made clear that something is just not right in the dressing
room. However, if the striker makes an appearance in the starting line- up and manages to score then finally the speculations might seem to settle down.
Wayne Rooney fans and MU’s supporters are already dreading the news and they have been speculating about the future of the club as well as its most dear possession.
Every move of Rooney would be watched and the outcome of the Champions League match on the 20th of October would determine the future of the star striker and more importantly the future of the Red Devils.
