All Malaysian players fail to reach quarter-final stage at World University Games – Badminton news
Malaysia’s chances of winning the title in any category at the World University Games went up in smoke as no Malaysian player reached at the quarter-final stages in any category of the sport. All of them lost their initial round matches to their opponents
in the event at Shenzhen, China, on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
In the category of Men’s Singles, Malaysia’s Loh Wei Sheng, who was the top bet of the country for a medal, lost his battle to Korea’s Park Sung Min in the Men’s Singles second round of the championship. He played good badminton in the opening set but failed
to finish it and lost to the spirited Korean with the score of 21-23. In the following game, he completely failed to tackle the speed of his rival and lost it with a stunning score of 9-21.
Another shuttler in the Men’s Singles category, Loo Yik Siang lost to Japan’s experienced shuttler, Takuma Ueda with the score of 11-21 and 8-21. Zulfadli Zulkifli, the ruling Asian Junior champion did not play in the Men’s Singles individual matches as
he is focusing on the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix.
In the category of Women’s Singles, Shalini Sukumran and Julia Wong were also unable to reach in the quarter-final as both of them lost their pre-quarter-final matches to their opponents.
Shalini failed to compete against s**+ Xian of China as the local shuttler was playing on a higher level. The Chinese was playing with considerable ease against the Malaysian girl and the difference of class between both shuttlers was quite clear. Shalini
lost to the Chinese shuttler with a big margin of 10-21 and 7-21.
Julia played well against Indonesia’s Rachmawati Hda but she remained unlucky in the third set of the match and lost it with a narrow margin. She won the opening set with the margin of 21-14 but lost the following both sets with the score of 18-21 and 19-21.
The overall score of this thrilling match was 21-14, 18-21 and 19-21.
