All Quiet on The Western Front- Endind Paragraph?

I'm currently reading All Quiet on The Western Front, and I really think it is a moving and dramatic book. However, I have had some trouble interpreting the last paragraph of the book- like who is talking? Who died? It obviously can't be Paul who dies- so who is narrating? And why is the last paragraph of the book on the back of the last page (when there is clearly enough room to put it on the front...)

  1. The author is narrating. & it isn't really part of chapter 12... its the epilogue, it tells you what happens after the book ends.

If that paragraph wasn't there, you wouldn't know what happened!
