The developers of Starhawk, LightBox Interactive, do not plan on charging players for any new content in the game as they do not want to fracture their player community like they did with Warhawk.
Starhawk is the sequel to the much loved PlayStation 3 launch title, Warhawk. The game has been released in all the major territories and it seems that LightBox Interactive, the game’s developers, are looking to convince the more hesitant consumers to part
with their money in exchange for the latest hawk experience.
The President of LightBox Interactive, Dylan Jobe, pointed out that once consumers purchased a copy of Starhawk, they would not have to pay anything extra for any DLC that the studio plans to release, or as Jobe rather emphatically put it, "Whenever we release
a map pack you won't have to pay a friggin' dime."
However, there is a reason the studio is using the concept of ‘free content’ and applying it Starhawk, as they do not want to repeat the mistake they made with Warhawk. Apparently the three DLC packs released for the game fractured the community and had
adverse effects.
Jobe said, "We really didn't like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players and after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured."
Almost to prove how serious they were, Jobe went on to tease an image of the upcoming map pack, which be available for download free of cost. The image showed a new planet, Cypress, which is described as "A lush, swampy world that's home to an abandoned
research facility that many years ago was responsible for researching the mysteries of Rift Energy.”
Starhawk has received nothing but praise from critics as the ability to build one’s base and use vehicles serves up a unique type of multiplayer that other games do not offer. Whether or not the game goes on to be financial success for Sony and LightBox
is another story altogether and it will be interesting to see the sales figures for the title when they are announced.
