I'm a beginner in guitar and I'm getting an acoustic guitar on Saturday and I'm going to the music store for it [not online].

I want a Fender Acoustic guitar because I've heard some really good things about them. My budget is $500...

What are some cool, good sounding Fenders out there within my budget?

I really need help on this because I'm as nervous as heck...I wanna know what kind of guitar I should get before getting it :]

Thank you in advance!!! You guys rock!

  1. Fender DG-7.  Great guitar.  Well under your budget.  You might check out the Epiphones as well; their acoustics are as good as the Gibsons these days.

  2. just make sure its an acoustic/electric with a cutaway. you'll be fine.

  3. Fender is a very good brand, period, but there are a lot of other guitars out there.  I own four guitars.  Two electric, and two acoustic.  The electrics are Fender.  You can probably get a good acoustic for around $200, try them all.  The guitar must feel comfortable to you.  Find one with a thinner neck, and make sure the strings are not too high.  Try a 12 string while you're there.  Of course quality sound is a must.  Take your time, and make the right decision.  Don't be pressured into buying anything you're not satisfied with.

    Been playing since the 60s.

  4. dont worry about what type/brand of guitar, just get one that has a low action, (the strings are low to the fretboard), dont be afraid to ask some one in the shop either they generally know about the instruments. Some of the best guitars I have owned and I have had many, were cheap and were no name brands, they just played right for me, I have a chinese acoustic guitar at the moment and it cost about $80 (australian)  it was bought in china as I am still here in china at this time,- but all that aside, it is without a doubt one of the best acoustic guitars I have ever had, so all I can say is, try before you buy and if it feels right and it does what you want it to do then buy it no matter how cheap. I also have a gibson electric (made in china) they have a factory in a place called chengdu and I also own an old beaten up korean guitar as well as a 1933 year model dobro resonator, the old korean (peerless) has been my favourite until I acquired the chinese one (lute), so it just goes to show name brands arent always the way to go. I have been playing 30 years.

  5. The best advice I can give you is to go to the music store with an open mind.  Fender acoustics are OK but there are lots of other really nice guitars within your budget; don't rule them out just because they're not Fenders.

If you can, bring a guitar playing friend with you to the store. The thing to do when you get to the music store is to try out a bunch of guitars in your price range, not just Fenders.  You're looking for a guitar that feels comfortable in your hands, with a neck that fits your hand and a body that you can wrap your arm over and strum without feeling like the body is too big.  What matters is not the name on the guitar but how it feels and sounds to YOU. Pick out 2 or 3 guitars that you like best, then get your guitar playing friend, or one of the store sales people, to play each of those guitars for you to listen to with your back turned (a blind listening test).  The one that sounds the best to you is the one you want.

  6. your first guitar.  look on ebay.  i've got a few nice guitars, (martin, taylor) from there.  saved a lot of money, the guitars were used and have a lot of character.  you don't necessarily have to buy a brand new guitar.  buy a used one and don't get stuck on fender.  seagull makes nice guitars, especially for beginners, cedar s6.  there are many guitars in that price range, look yourself online.  people are always selling their guitars.
