For everyone that wants to put Ray Robinson first fine (even though the best of him was never captured on film), but please limit it to fighters you've seen enough of rather than historical picks. Whatever other criteria you want.

1. Roy Jones

2. Duran

3. Whitaker

4. Leonard

5. Ali

6. Toney

7. Hagler

8. Hearns

9. Mosely

  2. I am 54 years old and have watched many of the old time fights such as Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Robinson fight films in which you usually only see highlights of unless you catch something on ESPN Classic so I will base my answer on fights or fighters I've actually watched throughout the years when I started keeping up with boxing in 1964.  My top 10 from that era to now are:

    1.  Marvin Hagler/Carlos Monzon.  Two of the greatest middleweight champions in boxing history  Hagler was champ from 80-87 with a record of 62-3-2 (52)  Monzon was champ from 70-77 with a record of 87-3-9 (59)

    3.  Roberto Duran.  Hands of Stone won multiple world titles at various weight classes but is remembered as the perhaps the greatest lightweight champ ever.  He was champ from  72-79 and finished with a career mark of 103-16-0 (70)

    4.  Muhammad Ali.  Without doubt the greatest heavyweight if not all time, this modern era.  Won championship 3 different times fighting the toughest competition and finished with a career mark of 56-5-0 (37)

    5.  Ricardo Lopez.  What can you say but never was beat? Record of 51-0-1 (38) and champion almost 9 years.  Could do it all in the ring with perfect technique.

    6.  Salvador Sanchez.  It's tragic that we never got to really see the best of this man.  Overall record of 44-1-1 (32) Featherweight champ from 80-82.

    7.  Larry Holmes.  The Easton Assassin often felt under appreciated for his accomplishments.  Heavyweight king from 78-85 with an overall record of 69-6-0 (44)

    8.  Khaosai Galaxy.  One of the greatest little men ever in ring history.  Champion from 84-91 with an overall mark of 50-1-0 (44).

    9.  Sugar Ray Leonard.  Beat the very best of his era like Hagler, Hearns, and Duran so that can never be overlooked.  Won titles in welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight divisions finishing with a career mark of 36-3-1 (25)

    10.  Michael Spinks.  Overall record of 31-1-0 (21)  First light heavyweight champ to move up and win heavyweight championship.  Light heavyweight king from 81-85.

    Honorable mention:

    George Foreman

    Joe Frazier

    Pernell Whitaker

    Thomas Hearns

    Alexis Arguello

    Aaron Pryor

    Jose Napoles.

    J.C. Chavez

Note:  I did not name such great fighters as Mayweather Jr. Roy Jones Jr., Pacquiao etc because their careers are still going.  Good question, thanks.
