My husband and I are expecting our second child, a son, in december. We have a 5 year old daughter as well. I'm curious about what its like to have a baby boy. Any moms out there have any quirks or tips to share about having a little boy?

  1. Well, I dont have any girls so I cant compare them for ya.. I'm a Mommy to 3 wonderful little boys.  Your first decision is whether or not to get him circumsized.  They say its easier to keep it clean when its circumsized.  Either way, you still have to pull the skin down to clean it.. See, I didnt know that so I wasnt doing it until my pediatrician pointed it out to me.. there was actually white stuff there that needed to be cleaned.. So yay, whether he gets circumsized or not, remember to pull down the skin to wipe in there..  After the circumsicion, you'll have to put vaseline and gauze on it for like 2-3 days...  It looks so red and you just know it hurts them but they take it like brave little soldiers.

Ok, then yes, the next thing.. Always cover that thing when changing a diaper.. nothing worse than pee all over the new outfit you had waiting for him, lol.

As they get older.. boys tend to be slower at things than girls.. SO he may not sit, crawl, walk, etc etc etc at the same time as your daughter did...  this is especially true with potty training.. Just give him time and he will do it.

Boys are great!!  He'll be a welcomed addition to your family.

  2. A baby is a baby, it's not that much different, accept for the circumsision if you get that done.  Once they get older, obviously things are different.  Girls develop and mature a little faster than boys, so he may be behind your daughter in development but it doesn't mean anything.  Boys are more daring and less likely to care about dirt!  Clothing can be cheaper and easier for boys cuz it's mostly just shorts/jeans and a shirt, but as far as being a baby, the only difference is the diaper changes.  Stand back, you'll get wet!  Girls flows downward, boys flows UP and OUT like a fountain.  Best of luck and congrats.

  3. Congratulations, I'm actually on opposite sides of you. I have a five year old boy and am expecting a baby girl (i have no idea what to expect) Little boys are angels. They love their mommies, and he will do the sweetest things for you kind of like a gentleman. Boys don't cry as much as baby girls (as far as i've heard), they are more physical, and as they grow older they are not as open as girls. Also, boys lose attention quite quickly, and things will have to be repeated to them a million times before they listen. All children are blessings and I'm sure both you're children will bring you boundless happiness.

  4. I was just like you.  I have a 3 1/2 year old daughter and found I was pregnant with a boy and started asking my MIL all the questions I could because there are a lot of girls in my family and I felt I knew nothing about boys.  My son is only 3 1/2 months and so far, he seems to be a little bit easier than my daughter in that he's easy to dress and I don't have to worry about accessorizing with bows and socks to match each outfit.  Ha ha!  We had our son circumcised and he healed wonderfully.  So far, there haven't been any huge differences.  Oh, except him peeing on us.  We learned fast to change his diaper quickly and to be on guard.  That's about it.

  5. Oh geesh...there's all kinds of perks to having a baby boy. I've heard that they're easier than girls which I do believe because I babysit for a 1 year old girl and she's much more difficult then he is. The only tip that I have really to share is ALWAYS make sure that their privates are covered when you're in the middle of a diaper change lol.

  6. Little boys sure love their mommy. Mine is a ball full of adrenaline. They are hyper  and not afraid to get dirty. :)

P.S. Keep that peepee covered at all times while changing or you'll get a Niagara Falls shower.
