All about the 2013 Solheim Cup European Captain, Liselotte Neumann
Liselotte Neumann will captain the European 2013 Solheim Cup team. Better known by her nickname “Lotta”, Neumann is a long time veteran of the Solheim Cup.
She started playing golf at the age of ten and soon started competing in the local tournaments. She particularly recalls Colgate cup as the tournament that inspired her to take up golf. She won the third prize, a golf bag, in the event.
This start led her on to the road of becoming a pro golfer. She has been very successful in her career and so far has 26 titles to her credit. She joined LPGA in 1988 and is now considered a brilliant star of the tour. She has also played on the European
counterpart, the LET.
Her association with these tours has been very successful. She has won 13 LPGA titles and 8 LET titles. She is rather partial to LPGA as it brought her the most cherished win of her career.
In 1988, a very young Liselotte Neumann participated in the US Women’s Open. She moved ahead on the leaderboard and won the event, much to everyone’s surprise.
To this day, she is very proud of her achievement. She also won the Women’s British Open, a LET major tournament, in 1994.
She is no stranger to Solheim Cup. She has been a part of the European team since 1990 and has played in six editions of the event. With this long exposure to the golf’s premier tournament, she is the best person to lead the 2013 European team.
Another point in her favour is the fact that she had played under the best captains of the recent teams. This has given her an edge over the competition. Many experts think that she will prove to be an excellent captain and will ensure that the Cup remains
in Europe.
She recalls her two Solheim Cup wins in 1992 and 2000 with great fondness. These were the greatest moments for the European team. The matches had been very tough and the US team seemed unbeatable.
The 2013 edition of the Solheim Cup will decide whether she continues as captain or not.
