All about the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge
Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge is an unofficial golf event that takes place in Nevada every year. The tournament uses the stroke play format but it is very unique in nature. The tournament groups the member’s team from LPGA, PGA and the Champions Tour. Champions
Tour, as the name suggests, is the PGA Senior Tour.
All the three teams compete against each other in a one-day event, held in Nevada. The tournament boasts prize money of $900,000.
Wendy’s is a fast food chain that sponsors this tournament and all the earnings from the event go to a charity formed by Wendy’s. It is a fast food chain that provides delicious Hamburgers worldwide.
Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is the name of the charity organisation that encourages adoption throughout America.
The tournament is not an official PGA event but it is still telecasted live some times on the TV. In 2010, the event was aired on the Golf Channel. The Champions Tour team is the defending champion of the event and it will be looking to defend its title
this time around as well.
Since 2003, no team has ever defended its title, so it would be a tough ask for the seniors this time. The tournament was first played in 1992 and till today it has raised more than $21 million for charity.
The tournament is played on one of the finest golf courses of America. Rio Secco Golf Course hosts this tournament and it gives a pure Las Vegas touch.
An interesting thing is that the tournament is played according to the handicaps of the players. The PGA Tour team plays a full length golf course, where as for the Senior and the LPGA teams, the distance from tee to pin is reduced accordingly.
It is the only tournament of its kind that is played in the world. No other tournament uses this kind of format.
The event is played and conducted in a very friendly manner, as everybody is playing for a noble cause. Usually the event is completed in just a day and it is mostly played on Tuesdays.
