All bases covered for Team Pacquiao
With less than a week left before his much-anticipated showdown with Antonio Margarito, four-time trainer of the year Freddie Roach said that they are already 100 per cent prepared and all
the bases have been covered.
Roach, who trained Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines for four weeks before flying to the American soil for the last three weeks of their preparation, is confident that his prized fighter
already knows how to win on 13 November after all their hard work.
“Manny knows the game plan and he's exactly ready for the fight,” said Roach, who was named as the Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year in 2003, 2006, 2008, and last
year. “Whatever Margarito does, Pacquiao knows the answer.”
The 50-year-old trainer also said that he is not going to watch video’s of their opponent anymore because he is confident that he had already anticipated all the possible fight plan of the
Mexican fighter, whose image was tainted with the hand-wrapping controversy during his showdown with Shane Mosley. “I am done watching tapes with Margarito,” he said.
However, Roach still expressed his concern that Pacquiao might have been distracted by politics during their training camp in the Philippines, although he said that the seven-division champion
intensified his training in Los Angeles.
“He trained really hard to the extent of killing himself,” Roach said. “When I told him to stop, he asked for more. That’s the Pacquiao of old and as such, he will again win as he had done
too many times before.”
And with what he witnessed during their training camp, Roach believes that the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion will make history in capturing a world title in eight
different divisions.
“I’m betting my house on Manny,” Roach confidently said. “And had I married and had children, I will also bet them that Manny will beat Margarito and etch his name in boxing history as the
first man to win an eighth title in as many divisions.”
The “fighting congressman” has already arrived in Dallas along with his family, training staff, and colleagues in the Philippines’ House of Representatives, on Monday 8 November. He is scheduled
to have an open workout on Tuesday 9 November before the press conference on Wednesday 10 November at the Cowboys Stadium.
