All clear from Tour de France 2011 doping as Alberto Contador waiting on results of 2010 Tour
Alexandr Kolobnev was the only cyclist involved in the doping allegations during the Tour de France 2011 as his sample B also came up positive for hydrochlorothiazide found in his urine sample during the stage five of the Tour. Hydrochlorothiazide can be
used as a performance enhancing drug and also as a masking agent and hence is prohibited by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
Kolobnev had to leave the tour after the first positive test and faced the initial reaction by his team Katusha who said that Kolobnev will be sacked from team. According to the team Katusha policy any cyclist convicted of doping is dismissed and also faces
a penalty of five times his salary.
After the positive sample B the case was forwarded to Russian Cycling Federation who had to take further actions on the case. Kolobnev is now cleared by the UCI as it has made an announcement today that all the anti-doping tests taken during the Tour de
France 2011 have been confirmed as negative.
Pat McQuaid who is the current President of the UCI mentioned that he will extend his full support to make sure that all the players follow the code of conduct and will also ensure that the sport is clean from the doping abuse. He mentioned that the positive
results during the previous grand tour is an indication that UCI has done a good job in making the sport clean from the use of unfair means in the sport including doping as he said, “It also indicates that there has been a change of mentality and behaviour
within the peloton. Our sport is on the right track and we will continue to use all means available to protect it.”
The final results of 2011 Tour de France reflects the cooperation of French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD) and UCI working collectively as UCI was before criticised by AFLD president Pierre Bordry who accused it of favouring certain teams and players.
Alberto Contador who was tested positive for clenbuterol in Tour de France 2010 is still waiting on his fate as decision on his case has been delayed again until November 2011.
