All eyes on Azreen Rizal Nasir as Sapura face Universiti Kuala Lumpur in third match at MHL
The 22-year-old Penang-born striker, Azreen Rizal Nasir, is the centre of attention for Sapura as the club is going to face the challenge of the Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) in their third match in the Premier Division of the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL)
at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
In their previous two matches the striker has contributed in his team’s victory by scoring five goals and the club is expecting the similar performance by the striker in their upcoming fixtures against tougher sides.
The striker has scored all of his five goals on open play including a hat-trick in their opening match against the Armed Forces on September 18. Nasir scored two goals to lead his side to a 3-2 victory against Maybank.
I. Vickneswaran, the coach of Sapura club, stated that Azreen has improved himself and has grown as a matured player since he joined the club in 2009.
“He was just a fringe player in the last two years, drifting in and out of the national training squad. But all that changed when he received a last-minute call-up to the Guangzhou Asian Games team last year. He has since become a regular,” I. Vickneswaran
stated his comments about the striker ahead of their match against UniKL.
The striker, Azreen Nasir, is not a blatant forward instead he maneuvers from the mid-field along with S. Kuhan and Mohamed Marhan Jalil as his associates.
“He gets into a lot of space by coming in from behind. So, he often finds himself in good scoring positions. The team work is also good and there is good support from those around him,” I Vickneswaran further commented about the striker, Azreen Nasir.
The club, Sapura is currently at the second spot on the points table with six points behind Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) which is leading the tally with six points. KLHC has a better goal difference as compared to Sapura which are looking to grab the
full points to top the table after today’s match.
