All hail King Sebastian Vettel!
The 2010 Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel won the Drivers’ standings in the very final race that took place at the illustrious Yas Marina in Abu Dhabi. The German driver took the victory and snatched the title away from
Fernando Alonso who was the favourite for the 2010 Drivers’ title since he was leading by quite a comfortable margin.
Sebastian was named the International Driver of the Year at the annual Autosports awards that were held in London at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
Vettel had an amazing season in 2009 as he finished in 2nd place in the Drivers’ standings in his 2nd full season in the sport. It was quite clear that the young German was a potential Formula One champion
but no one knew that he would win the title so soon.
Sebastian Vettel became the youngest Formula One Champion in history and was obviously, extremely happy with his achievement. He enjoyed his title after returning to his country and many people claim that this was the first of
many titles that Sebastian will win in the future.
“Yesterday we had a very special night with the guys from the team in London, which was very special because I've been around the planet since the one night we had in Abu Dhabi. It's been great to be back with them and to be able
to celebrate this properly,” said Vettel.
Winning the Driver of the Year award is a huge achievement for a driver and even though it is mostly won by Formula One drivers, winning the award at such a young age is quite an achievement.
Other than that, some of the lifetime award recipients included Sir Jackie Stewart and Rubens Barrichello for the Gregor Grant Award.
“I knew Gregor, another Scot and a great storyteller, well, so to get this award is an honour,” said Stewart.
Kamui Kobayashi won the Rookie of the Year award, Red Bull RB6 won the Car of the Year award and McLaren won the Pioneering Award for the creation of the F-duct.
