The Korean young gun has stolen the show, as the 19-year old has marvelled two titles in a row in one night. Noh Seung-Yul was officially declared the youngest Asian Tour Order of Merit champion and Player
of the Year at the Asian Tour Awards Gala on Sunday night.
2010 has officially ended in the calendars of the PGA, European, Japan, and Sunshine Tour. This called for a celebration, which is why a gala night was held where the top achievers were given awards.
Noh’s name went into the books of the Asian Tour as the youngest rookie to lead the Order of Merit and money rankings. The Korean is 19 years and 204 days old and a winner of the May Bank Malaysian Open,
which was co-sanctioned by the European and Japan Tour. Moreover, he enjoyed four Top 10 finishes in the same year, grabbed 40th place in the US Open, and 28th in the PGA Championship.
The player could not make an appearance in the award ceremony, owing to an eye surgery, but sent a video message for the audience.
He said, "I am honoured to receive the Asian Tour's Order of Merit trophy and becoming the youngest ever champion in history. It is also special for me to win the Players' Player of the Year Award as this
is nominated by my fellow professionals.”
He paid his salutation to the Asian Tour for supporting the young players and said, “The Asian Tour has done so much in my career and I am thankful for the opportunities that I have enjoyed since coming through
from Qualifying School in 2008. My game has become better over the years through the high level of competition on the Asian Tour and I will continue to represent the Asian Tour proudly."
The ceremony took place in Hua Hin, Thailand after the Black Mountain Masters wrapped up to mark the Japan Tour close for 2010. The celebrations included live music and food. Noh could not make it to the
venue, but he certainly made it into the record books with his perfect putting, Green Hits in Regulation, and driving accuracy.
