All helicopter pilots?

Why did you choose to learn to fly the helicopter rather than the airplane? Was training hard? How did you actually train? Is it hard to control? What kind of jobs are offered for flying helicopters? Whats your job for flying a helicopter? Anything else?

Please answer at least a few of them

  2. its not hard  but differnt and you have two fly it more activaly training was fun

  3. I am not licensed but I have had a few lessons in an R22 with the hopes of getting my commercial ticket. I thought it was difficult to hover but it just takes practice. Actually flying it is as easy as an airplane.

I considered getting more time in a fixed wing and then transitioning to rotary to save a few bucks but many people advised against that method.

Most flight schools use the R22 and a few still use bell 47's and I've seen some using Hughes, (MD) 500 but hourly costs are MUCH more expensive in a turbine helicopter. You'll have actual flight time and ground school.

Most flight schools will train you in normal operations, slope operations , high altitude operations, operating in a crowded airspace, radio procedures, enclosed area operations, Weights and CG considerations, and you can take options like external loads, stc.

Sounds great, I wish I had done it earlier. Now, I think its too late for me.

  4. I like a helicopter better because as previously stated, the flying is more active.  In a fixed-wing, you can do clover leaves, split-s, rolls, etc. literally with your fingertips and rare toe inputs........in a rotary-wing aircraft, flying slow with a good, stiff crosswind, you can be using all four limbs very actively.  I also like the part about being closer to the ground.  At 22,000' everything looks more or less the same......at 50 feet it is quite another story.

I will admit that I do miss going fast, though.

As for difficulty....way harder than fixed-wing.  90% of learning to fly a plane is landing.
