Hey there! I'm a 15 year old student who is from Hong Kong. I am IN LOVE WITH HORSES, and I bought all sorts of horse pictures, postcards, statue, decorations and wat so ever. And near my home, there is a horse-riding club that i can join. My dad and mum has no offence, of course they are expecting me to get good marks in school even with so much activities( i have 1-2 activities every day... lol. I'm VERY BUSY everyday. Mind this point because mum and dad is worrying this. I've got drawing, dancing, piano lessons, maths, chinese and english class, tennis, but i can do anything if i got a chance to learn horse-riding). But since i was so mad about horses, I would like to give out anything if i got a chance to learn horse-riding. I've tried it before in new zealand and in hong kong and i think it is soooooo interesting!!!! I just hope i can get a horse and be my best pal and i can ride on him and he can play with me.... seems crazy. But this is true. And my dad reminds me about one point is that i cant help risking my life when i am riding a horse becuase i might fell off from it and hurt myself. I've thought of this point carefully and I came to realize that he was right! And i cant make a proper decicion myself so i think asking ppl in yahoo would help. Please help me!!!! I'M IN NEED OF EVERY EXPERIENCED HORSE- RIDERS SO I CAN HEAR GOOD ANSWERS AND GOOD ADVICE!! i'm so so so so so so so fond of them and i wish i'd had a horse. I wanted to horse ride so badly. HELP!!! ADVICE PLEASE, whether i should go or not go... desperatly...

  1. see if you can work at tthe riding stable/ race track / etc

  2. If you want to ride go for it.

Start learning on a gentle horse.

    Take your time.

You can be hit by a bus.

  3. Go on and try it, its so much fun! You'll be hooked on it once you try. There is a risk in riding, but you have  to take risks in life anyway. And if its like a horse club that has school-horses then they'll be super calm anyway and if you want to buy a horse just go for the quiet, beginners horse.

Give it a go. Once you're on the horse you'll forget about the risk...

And if you fall it won't always be terrible... especially if your not being stupid, then it'll just be your own fault...

  4. I would start out by taking lessons on a gentle horse that has been broke. Then if you still want to continue I would lease a horse so that you kind of have a horse. Then you have all the responsibilities of a horse owner. Then if you decide to buy a horse then you have experience and you can find a perfect match for a horse of your own. Hope I helped. Happy Riding!

  5. go for it!

i stopped riding horses for cheerleading one year and it was the worst decision ive ever made!

once you start riding you will want to do that all the time and nothing else as soon as cheer season was over i ran straight back to the barn and havnt left since.

horses are the best thing that can happen in anyones life

  6. if you want to ride then ride! But, whatever you do, don't ask for the horse thats difficult, ask for a gentle horse. You need to know how to hold a horse back before you can ride one of the more difficult horses. Also horses don't play as such. They may follow you or come to the gate of their pasture when you call(eventually) but they don't really play.

Don't expect a horse straight away, my mum still thinks I'm not quite ready even when I've been riding for 4 yrs!

  7. Mmk! here's my reccomendation. Start by taking lessons. That way you feel more comfortable and a lot safer on horses. I dont think it is safe for you to go out and just buy a horse right off the bat because then you could be risking your health and the health, experience, and training abilities of the horse. Remember horses have A LOT of health issues, and you should be properly trained to handle those situations in order to own one. Colicing, lameness, worms, strangles, colds, scratches, sore backs. Those are all conditions a horse could develope! (AND THERE ARE SO SO MANY MORE!!) HORSES ARE EXPENSIVE AND HIGH MAINTENENCE!!)

Also, If a horse is ridden by an inexperienced rider they may learn bad habits, and possibly s***w up their whole training. Not saying that you'll do that but well honestly most people who go into it without knowing this stuff do really s***w up! There are a lot of people that really mess up some amazing horses just because they wanted fun on their part. Im sounding like a total prude but trust me you'll have a lot more fun when you know how to control the horse. Take lessons, and then try leasing for a little while. If you stick with it you'll feel a lot safer and happier you did, because you'll be controlling the horse not the other way around! I soo hope you continue in your passion and make the right choice for you!! OOH ALSO: Talk to some instructers and trainers about this they'll give you the details on everything i mentioned!
