All in texas holdem poker question?

Full table of people and the blinds are 200-400. I call and another guy goes all in 500 chips. Now small blind, does he just call 300 (to make 500) or does he have to call 800 because a 100 is technically an illegal bet thus 400 would be the minium call for the rest of players. Also can small blind go all in? It just would seem weird that the blinds can raise and go all in, but Because i called early i wouldnt be able to call any raise, just the 100 raise by the all in player. If you can figure this out your an amazing player

  1. i dont get it

  2. let me answer your question correctly for you since i am a floor manager in a casino poker room.  since the big blind is 400 it is only 400 to call. now the player going all in for 500 made it 500 to call. this is NOT a raise. a raise needs to be double the previous bet. so a full raise would be a minimum of 800. double the big blind.  anybody acting after the player who went all in for 500 can still raise but the minimum would be 900. the small blind has the option to call 300 more or raise or fold. the big blind can call 100 more or raise or fold. if no one else raises the pot a full raise after someone goes all in or the all in is not double the previous bet then you can only call and cannot reraise. if the all in player went all in for 800 then you could raise becasue it is a full raise. also the amount of raises is unlimited in no-limit poker except for the situation discribed above.

for those of you who asked me to clarify about the 900 min raise. here is the reasoning. with the BB being 400 the minraise is 800. however when a player moves all in for less than a full raise lets say he made it 700 you still have to make a full raise on top of it. so you must make it 400 more on top of the 700 so to make just a minimum raise would be 1100 becuase you still have to count the 700 as a bet it is just not a raise. there was an article in the CardPlayer Magazine just last week explaining the same thing. I do not know what CHAD is talking about below i dont care what card room you are in if someone bets 600 you could NEVER make it 625 unless you were ALL IN. however he is right about the raise from 800 to 1200 i may have left that out but the size of the raise has to be equal to or greater to the last RAISE not the total bet. so if someone bet say 500 and some raises to 1500 it is a 1000 raise the next minimum raise would be to 2500. get it a 1500 plus a raise of 1000. good luck everyone. any other legitamate poker questions feel free to email me and i will answer as time permits.

  3. Small blind would have the option to call..300 more or they could go all in or raise.

  4. you can go all in also on the next time around...but that only pertains to you have few chips left and not a big stash of cash.

  5. Bobby . . . if you are reading this can you clarify?

you say . . . "anybody acting after the player who went all in for 500 can still raise but the minimum would be 900".

Because the extra $100 does not constitute a raise, it is my understanding that the min raise here would still be up to $800.

I know you are a manager, but i have been in this situation many times as a player and believe you may have misstated here.

    Thanks

  6. If the player goes all in for 500 hes not, raising 500, hes going all in for his 500. this if you were the small blind at 200 you would call 300 dollars to continue with the hand. you also have the option if your the next person who raises after the bet, you have the option to raise as high as you want or go all in. the next player would only be able to call the all in regardless of how many chips he has. there can only be two raises in pre flop.

  7. Bobby wins hands down.  Perfect answer.

  8. The SB can just call.

If you didn't want to raise the first time around, why would you want to raise after someone pushed all-in?

Different poker rooms have different minimum raises.  Some require the raise be the size of the last bet, so if you bet 800 someone has to make it at least 1600 to go.  Others require that the raise be the size of the BB, is if blinds are at 200/400, player A makes it 800, player B could raise to 1200.  Other rooms allow you to raise the smallest chip on the table.  So if there are $25 chips, player A makes it 600 to go, player B could make it 625.
