All keys lost or destroyed to '94 vehicle--what do we do?

My husband's 1994 ford ranger key broke in half (no idea where the other half is). The doors were locked by the time he noticed, and obviously, we have no key to the ignition (we had a spare key which was stolen, along with my husband's wallet, a couple months ago that we forgot to replace).

We called ford, but the key-by-VIN-number deal did not go into effect until 1998, so the dealership can't help us. We called a locksmith who did really have answers. Is it possible to find a locksmith who can make a new key, based on the lock? Or do we need to replace all the locks and the ignition?

I might be able to help you get into your truck and if the key is broke off in the ignition it might still turn the ignition.Okay go to the back glass on your truck , look at the rubber that goes around the outside of the glass, if it is the soft rubber ,( only if it the soft rubber) you can take a s***w driver and pop the rubber out at one corner , it has a lip on each side of the glass ,you need to stick the s***w driver in behind the inside part of the rubber . so it will stay on the glass , but come aloose from the inside of the truck just enough to get your arm around to the door lock or you could remove the whole glass if you wanted to.Just besure to take your time not to break the glass.

A seasoned (old-timer) locksmith should be able to make the keys you need in 15 minutes, but you'd have to get the vehicle to him or her.  (You'd pay a premium for a housecall).

just replace the locks, then make a spare, if you break a key again, try and get another key.

The best thing to try is to find a locksmith in your area who can make a key without having a hard copy of the original. Some can put different models in and find out what kind of key it is, and go from there, just finding that locksmith could be a problem. If this does not work, call your local ford dealer for help. If all else fails, invest in a bike :-/   they dont have keys
