When anti-feminists in here quote those words, do they even Know that they are quoting a line from a fictional character in a novel?

What does this say about their honesty or intelligence?

  1. Just another example of the depths that the anti-fems will sink to to get anything bad to say about feminists.

Now they are using fictional characters in their battle against feminists???  (Shakes head)  Pitiful and pitiable.

    Thanks for finding this Sig.

Yet still they are a complete bore...

Edit:  Did anyone here READ the question.  Sigy didn't say this.  It is something taken from a fictional character in a fiction book.  No real person EVER said this.

Dan Brown is a fiction writer.  It didn't happen.  Scarlett O'Hara never lived.  Oh, what 's the use?

  2. Hmmm if all men aren't rapist then why was it so easy to get thousands upon thousands of soldiers throughout all of history to rape women in multitudes during war. If all men weren't rapists then shouldn't war crime be a fictional happening. And wouldn't rape genocide be a myth seeing as how all the men would be too sensitive, kind and gentle to do such a horrible thing. Juuusssst wondering.

Men are gang driven, clan like and mob driven, and they have natural tendencies to be very aggressive when given the chance. If one does it then they will all join in especially if they know that they are in the middle of a chaotic situation and no one will punish them.

    Power in numbers right

    No offense

  3. To say an author don't place their own view points in there writing is foolish. Dickens did it Mark Twain did it. There characters are a extension of themselves. Do you write about things you don't believe in?

  4. I'll tell you one thing to come out with something like that Marilyn French must have had some pretty low self-esteem; people who talk like that are sure candidates.  It's not an uplifting phrase one would use when they feel good about themselves that's for sure.

  5. it's not the anti femenist who say that is that five headed dragon(femenists) who say that.

  6. i suppose/ but then all women are whores then wanting to getted raped. depends on ones point of view since not all men or all women are straight so then what now? as a straight male I know for a fact that I can only be satisfied when my ego lets me the same holds true for a woman or any life form not sure why just is thats life I guess.

  7. LOL! That does not say much about their intelligence, education and manners. A great question, BTW.

  8. it says that theyre ignorant. i hate it when a man is walking down the street and a woman next 2 me says "omg girls! run inside!"

  9. it's unfair, women do rape men too

  10. Any gross generalisation, such as this statement, will be ridiculed, or worse - agreed with by some!

Gross generalisations get people into newspapers, TV or trouble - not necessarily in that order. When Marilyn French wrote that line, what was she intending, if anything? It feels like she was either angry, or numb or dumb - it sounds like a reactive statement.

A reactive statement that is also a gross over-simplification and generalisation is not going to get much respect.

Mind you, quoting it might be taken as a similar offense.

    I hope this helps.

  11. kinda harsh  tonight arnt you...

  12. LOL!  Lots of other feminists picked up on this quote and used it in earnest e.g. Dworkin. What does this say about their honesty or intelligence?

  13. You'll find that a great deal of overt anti-feminism is just recycled lies and misquotes that get circulated via shoddy websites and chain emails.  The quote from French, something a character says in a work of fiction, but snipped out of context and distributed around the internet, is just one example.

The attempted "answer" from khankrumthebulgar, above, is another good example of the viral spread of falsehoods about feminism; khankrum lists multiple utterly fictional misquotes and other mined quotes.  The first and the last ones attributed to Catharine Mackinnon, for example, are simply made up.  Mackinnon never said or wrote either of those things.  Others are taken out of contexts; others are decades old, fringe and forgotten by most people *except* for quote-mining anti-feminists.  It is not difficult to research these quotes, of course, but cutting and pasting from "fathers' rights" websites and right-wingnut opinion columns is not only much easier than research, but is guaranteed to produce the desired appearance of "man-hating" and craziness in feminism.

  14. Actually they're quoting Marilyn French herself. Putting out your own opinions in the guise of fiction is something a lot of writers do. Dan Brown did it in "The DaVinci Code." Actually it would have been more honest of Ms French if she'd simply written a non fiction book and wrote that line. It's what we all know she was thinking anyway. Why so cowardly as to hide behind the label of "fiction?"

  15. Yes, they use that line out of context frequently.

They use it rhetorically to advance their personal agendas,  suggesting that all feminists hate men.

    It's a dirty business, being anti-anything.

  16. "All s*x, even consensual s*x between a married couple, is an act of violence perpetrated against a woman."

    Catherine MacKinnon

"Men who are unjustly accused of rape can sometimes gain from the experience."

Catherine Comin, Vassar College. Assistant Dean of Students.

"Men renounce whatever they have in common with women so as to experience no commonality with women; and what is left...is one piece of flesh a few inches long, the p***s. The p***s is the man; the man is human; the p***s signifies humanity."

    Andrea Dworkin

"The media treat male assaults on women like rape, beating, and murder of wives and female lovers, or male incest with children, as individual aberrations...obscuring the fact that all male violence toward women is part of a concerted campaign."

    Marilyn French

Catharine MacKinnon ( ) maintains that "the private is a sphere of battery, marital rape and women's exploited labor." In this way, privacy and family are reduced to nothing more than aspects of the master plan, which is male domination. Democratic freedoms and the need to keep the state's nose out of our personal affairs are rendered meaningless. The real reason our society cherishes privacy is because men have invented it as an excuse to conceal their criminality. If people still insist that the traditional family is about love and mutual aid--ideals which, admittedly, are sometimes betrayed--they're "hiding from the truth." The family isn't a place where battery and marital rape sometimes happen but where little else apparently does. Sick men don't simply molest their daughters, they operate in league with their wives to "breed" them for that purpose.

Donna Laframboise; The Princess at the Window; (in a critical explication of the Catharine MacKinnon, Gloria Steinhem et al tenets of misandric belief.)

"I feel that 'man-hating' is an honorable and viable political act, that the oppressed have a right to class-hatred against the class that is oppressing them."

    Robin Morgan, Ms. Magazine Editor.

"I claim that rape exists any time sexual intercourse occurs when it has not been initiated by the woman, out of her own genuine affection and desire."

    Robin Morgan

"And let's put one lie to rest for all time: the lie that men are oppressed, too, by sexism--the lie that there can be such a thing as 'men's liberation groups.' Oppression is something that one group of people commits against another group, specifically because of a 'threatening' characteristic shared by the latter group--skin, color, s*x or age, etc. The oppressors are indeed ****** UP by being masters, but those masters are not OPPRESSED. Any master has the alternative of divesting himself of sexism or racism--the oppressed have no alternative--for they have no power but to fight. In the long run, Women's Liberation will of course free men--but in the short run it's going to cost men a lot of privilege, which no one gives up willingly or easily. Sexism is NOT the fault of women--kill your fathers, not your mothers".

    Robin Morgan.

"Heterosexual intercourse is the pure, formalized expression of contempt for women's bodies."

    Andrea Dworkin

"In a patriarchal society, all heterosexual intercourse is rape because women, as a group, are not strong enough to give meaningful consent."

Catharine MacKinnon, quoted in Professing Feminism: Cautionary Tales from the Strange World of Women's Studies.

"And if the professional rapist is to be separated from the average dominant heterosexual (male), it may be mainly a quantitative difference."

Susan Griffin, Rape: The All-American Crime.

  17. I think what people need to realize is that we all(men and women) are part animal/ part human. We try to suppress our animal instincts to live in a social society because it is ethical..

  18. Well, seriously, these are very likely the same people (or their acolytes) that have been using fictional quotes from old books to keep women, people of colour and even animals as their own personal possessions to be used as they pleased for thousands of years.

You think they're going to stop at misrepresentting a piece of modern fiction?

    Cheers :-)

  19. Honesty and intelligence, in the same sentence as anti-feminist....I don't think so

  20. Facts: The character's name is Val Truax. She is divorced and has one daughter, Chris, in college, who has just been raped. When they go to the police station to have the rapist arrested, the prosecutor's response is, "Lots of pretty white princesses want to try a little black meat." Chris goes to live with some people in the country so she can deal with this. Val decides to live and work only with radical feminists ("I've joined a militant feminist organization, and in the future I will work only in that"). She ends up dead after she is shot following a confrontation with police officers who were trying to arrest a rape victim.

  21. that womans mad! thats what humans do the world over its not rape, its not a male thing, its a human desire thing.Rape is an act of violence not desire.Desire from others is a compliment not a crime she makes me ashamed to be female!

  22. Well.......... i know a few.....

  23. I believe in equal rights.  I wish both sexes could both work together and help each other out.

  24. I think a few of them are proving their lack of intelligence now, since they apparently STILL don't get that it's a quote from a book of fiction!

    Wow.

So every author who's ever written a book of fiction, with many different characters, is expressing their OWN opinion with every character's line? That is incredibly ignorant. Not to mention an obvious attempt at back-pedaling.

EDIT-Please see "khankrumthebulgar" below as another example of dishonesty in attempting to use quotes out of context to vilify an entire group of people. These people have "quotes out of context" at the ready to confuse people who don't really know any better.

If khankrum were really the devoted anti-feminist he claims to be, he would go and find the ORIGINAL SOURCES for all of those quotes, so that we can put them in the correct context. What would he have to lose if everything he days is true? the fact is that he WILL NOT do that...he wouldn't know how to begin. He only knows what he has read on anti-women websites. He has no no grasp of "original" or reliable" sources. He is one those weak-minded individuals who desperately need to believe that SOMEONE is the cause for their screwed up life. He's not going to question the only thing that gives him a scapegoat.

  25. Gotta love an intelligent rhetorical question, how's the artic?  Love it when you get your claws out and draw a bit of anti-fem blood - d**n shame they taste so bad.

  26. It says that they have no validation in being "anti feminist" except fiction hahahaha. Funny huh.

  27. shiiit

    what a stupid quote

  28. That is such an ignorant statement. Rape is not about s*x its about violence and control.  All men are not rapists most are loving, kind, caring, fathers, brothers, husbands and sons.

  29. Ohh my god if all freaking man were some creep rapist  why

are so many freaking g*y!!!!!!!!!!! Unless they rape children or boys like the man who lives at Never Land Ranch........

  30. that is sexist, and offensive....but true
