I think I miss the point

I'm a musician and most of it is **** and they rag on me for liking alternative music.

They suck pink floyd, zeppelin, opeth, and Dream Theaters ***** but I just don't get it....

Someone want to enlighten me as to why metal is the supposed end all be all to music? Most 'metal' bands don't even use many aspects to music, its mostly just power chords and other stupid c**p like that, but I prefer music with raw, emotion as well as beautiful and ingenious music combined, especially when the music refers to other songs.

What're some good metal bands to listen to that are short, easy, nice sounding songs.

Should I smoke pot?

  1. You should try:::

    Incrave

  2. i think you need a boost of testosterone more then you need to smoke a joint. Floyd should not be related as the same as dream theater or opeth,  since zeppelin and floyd are not metal but classic rock, who brought the ideal of there style of music to the main stream therefore seaming to be original. And if you look at the two styles they are almost in no way the same.  I would like to see you pick up a guitar and play rifts and songs as well as a eddie vanhalen or play at the speed of all that remains or the originality of avenged sevenfolds solos.

  3. ...how can you NOT like metal music?

Like.. I understand how you could not like "hardcore/screamo/metal" stuff, like underoath [even though they're totally christian], system of a down, and some story of the year, and whatnot...

but metal music is like.. extremely classic.

yeah. try listening to like... more classic stuff. Can't beat Black Sabbath. Or Metallica.

Killswitch Engage is pretty beast, too.

I play random instruments too, by the way. Shouldn't you be well rounded in all genres of music to really appreciate your instrument, though?

  4. metallica - until it sleeps - minus human -

evanescence - going under - the only one -

marilyn manson - the speed pf pain - the last day on earth

    rammstein - mutter - rosenrot

and please don't say c**p i listen to this kind 0 music since i was a kid

listen to joe satriani u will like him

  5. Bro you seriously need to hear Opeth

Check out Bleak on the their Blackwater park Album

and Fair Judgement on the Deliverence album.

This is just a small drop in the pond of a band that has never released a bad track on any of their albums.

B4 them I never gave Death vocals a chance.

  6. Most 'metal' bands don't even use many aspects to music, its mostly just power chords and other stupid c**p like that,

    - that's a pretty massive generalization. There's soo many different types of metal...

    Apocalyptica

    Nevermore

    Sonata Arctica

    Lacuna Coil

    Iron Maiden

Not all of those are exactly short and easy... but they're nice sounding in my opinion. Now I'm going to admit I don't know much about whether they use a lot of power chords or not. I'm sure that if you look hard enough that you'll find at least one metal band you like.

  7. "If the music was good, I'd like it, right?"

Naw, not necessarily. I concede that many older bands are good, but I don't like them. And there are some classical pieces that I don't like but I can see how much talent it takes to compose.

Your Q is pretty much asked all the time. =/ Except instead of "I don't like metal", replace "metal" with "pop", "rap/hip hop", "country", etc. I'm just glad that not everybody likes the same thing, that'd be boring as h**l.

My favorite metal band = Nightwish.

    What do you think?

  8. Ha, I'm the same way. One of my best friends is head over heels in love with it, and I prefer acoustics, alternatives, etc. It's your personal opinion vs. theirs. It's not like you not liking the same music as them makes you any better and/or worse then them. It's the world. h**l, I like in an area where Country Music runs rapid, and - of course - I hate it with a fiery passion. Music, it's you. No one can take it from you. They can bash it, but s***w them and their opinions. Whatever they say doesn't really matter. BUT, I have to say some old school metal inspired quite a few people. As a musician, it doesn't matter if you don't like metal, but you have to respect what some of the artists have atleast done.

Whatever though. Oh and don't tell them to eat a d**k, because TRUUUST ME, they might. They just might. <-<

  9. lacuna coil is pleasent and epica

  10. ".....emotion ......beautiful and ingenious music"

That's why you don't like metal.

Metal is for the fast dying breed of REAL MEN. these words and feelings have no place in metal.

As Adam D of Killswitch Engage said at soundwave sydney 2008

"Drink a beer, eat some meat, get over it *&%*$

Having said that i believe everyone is redeemable.

Try listening to the old stuff, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Dio, Iron Maiden

If you want some new music Shadows fall, Killswitch, Firewind.

Goodluck saving yourself from the dark side (also known as the pink side)

  11. i completely agree with you. Trapt, Flogging Molly, Disturbed are among my favorite bands.. Along with Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica (old not new), Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold, Theory of a Deadman,Apocalyptica, Helloween,  Guns and Roses..etc..etc... I think everyone gets too caught up in labels. I agree that some of the metal music is really chaotic and some bands like theory of a deadman, trapt..etc..etc.. is easier to listen to.

  12. Tool, not really full-on metal but very complex song structures.

  13. I am not a metal head (more of a hardcore punk experimental girl) but I do listen to metal from time to time. I mean, its not my life, but I do like it.

What I don't get is people who look down on others for not liking their music. Its personal taste, and people who are looking for acceptance by liking the 'most brutal hardcore stuff ever dude' just need someone to tell them its okay and that being brutal doesn't make them cool.

I reference the hypothetical 'indie cred Fred' here.

And Killswitch Engage is horrible BTW. They hold their songs together with two riffs a piece that just change key and sound. Its not original, nor is it metal.

    I like real metal!

But yes, this is open to interpretation as you said. Don't tell them to eat a d**k, because they will get defensive and aggressive. (That's what any 'real' metal head' would do, right?)

If anyone is persecuting you for your opinion, tell them to shut up. Then tell them that superiority is not gained through musical tastes, it can only be gained through arrogance and blatant disregard for others.
