All my songs got deleted from my iPod Touch

Question

When I upgraded to the latest version of iTunes all of my songs got deleted from my library and also from my iPod.But When I click "Summary" The Capacity says My iPod has data that is taking up half my 8 Gigabytes but the thing is i don't have any data stored because ALL of my songs, movies, music videos, and contacts are gone.

Is there any way I can retrieve them?

Well i have one 2 and i couldnt get my songs back, it probably says you have data on your ipod because when you update it it takes memory on your ipod, like when you get the email, notes, map ect..

I'm not exactly sure, but if you set iTunes to let you browse your device, you can look around in it.  It probably has all the songs and stuff in it somewhere and you iPod doesn't see it.  If you need help setting iTunes to let you browse the inside of it, email me or something, I can probably help.  I don't have a Touch, but it couldn't be that much different. :)
