But I am so stubborn and said I'm not going because of the way I feel I've been treated the last year or so, like people getting promoted over me, who arn't even qualified to do the job and havent been here nowhere near as long as me,they've been fastracked because they are ****-lickers,Have you ever done anything like this before?

  1. At work, people are evaluated (at least in part) based on how well they "fit in."

If you do things like skip company BBQs (without a valid reason), then you are giving the message that you don't "fit in" and will make no effort to "fit in."

That's not good, and honestly, it's gives off a negative aura.  That may be part of the reason why you've been passed over for promotions.

I'm not saying you have to be a boot-l****r.  But at the same time, you're giving off the message (even if unintentionally) that "fitting in" is just not worth your time.

You may be inadvertently giving off the message, too, that you think you are better than everyone else.  And that might be turning some people off.

If I were you, I'd go to the BBQ.   Such events allow people who work together to interact in an informal, non-pressure, casual situation.    But just because it's informal doesn't mean that it won't help you at work.

  2. yes of course I'm not appreciated I"m not wasting my time with them and if it's on office time I'd go shopping while they get fat eating their BBQ

  3. Yeah, I've done similar things.  And I've learned that doing so only accomplishes braising in your own sauce.

  4. That is what happened to me, same thing but i worked that day they had a BBQ in the back of the store and i did not join them. Wanted no part of the fun they were having I am a good worker and never late and don't call off, but i am passed over for a lot of things.

  5. Yes, but then again its the old boys network at work when it happened to me, as far as they were concerned, we are there to make their cuppas, answer phones and do the filing, I worked about 16 hours a day and they only ever paid for 8, but hey, they had to employ 2 people to do my job when I got fed up and left lol! :)

  6. What, you mean throw my teddy bear out of my pram in a strop?

Then yes, when I was a child.

Since then, I have worked in a constructive way to resolves issues.

  7. Sounds like you work for JD Williams...

  8. Yes.

Matter of fact, tomorrow is a BBQ for our workplace.  I got treated shabbily by many of the folks there.  Why should I give up my free time to be treated shabbily again?

  9. Maybe you were passed over for promotion, because of your attitude of entitlement.  I'm sure they were promoted because of various other reasons, that you are not privy to.  Go eat bbq and stop making yourself feel put out.

  10. Life isn't fair, but at least you aren't clogging your arteries.

Maybe you should find a job with people you actually like so that you don't have this unpleasant feeling.  It is the old sibling rivalry on a larger stage, but alas, older brothers or sisters are too big to kill.

  11. I get treated like c**p at work, but I put up with a lot of stuff I shouldn't and you're completely right about people who suck up to employers. Although give up free food and drink?! thats just madness!

  12. Good on you, they can't just give away a couple of burgers and lagers and expect you to forget about the past. I hope it rains this afternoon and spoils their fun!

  13. Wow you've got guts, good for you for standing up for yourself

  14. No. I have done that before.

If I were you, I would go to the BBQ for the free food and drinks. After the event, tender your resignation letter to your boss.

  15. Its called cutting your nose off to spite your face and it will do nothing to improve your prospects - in fact, it kind of highlights why you have been passed over for promotion.  Its not a good idea to always be down on other people - maybe they were just better at the job.

  16. aka - cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Your refusal to eat carbon-covered sausages is unlikely to help with advancing your career.  If I were you, I'd have attended, gotten drunk and then told everyone exactly what I think of them, before announcing that you have urinated into the ketchup bottle.
