This is my first year playing golf. I've made some good strides, earlier in the summer my iron play was pretty good, but lately I can't seem to find any comfort in my swing. The ball slices to the right on impact and i'm not getting the distance I was. It is really the only part of my game not tuned in right now. Any suggestions?

  1. Two things cause a slice:

An in to out swing path and an open club face angle through impact.

Those are the only things that can cause a slice

  2. I had this same problem. you may be standing too close the the ball. take a half of a step back and extend your arms a little more. this really helped me. i got my distance back and the slice stopped completely.

  3. A high ball to the right is not cuased by the out to in swing; it is caused by what causes the out to in swing.  There could be lots of stuff that cause that, e.g., hips outracing the shoulders, swinging with arms instead of body, etc.  You'll just get more frustrated trying to work that out for yourself.  Go take a lesson or two and chances are you'll be hitting straight pretty quickly.

  4. your stance might be open...what is your handicap and what clubs do you use?

  5. Your Opening up during your swing.  try slowing your club down and keep your lead arm straight.  There's some good help guides at http://www.golfguide.synthasite.com.  Ive used most of them and they helped my game greatly.

  6. Take a lesson or two in the basic swing and swing plane. It appears that you may be setting up differently at address which may have altered the swing. A good teaching pro should determine what is happening and you can then benefit from his knowledge.
