It comes up with network and file sharing are turned off, so you click to change, but it wont let you, so you go to network and sharing center, the network discovery is turned off, so is file sharing and public folder sharing and printer sharing, clicking on any of the buttons and clicking change, it just will not let you reset the system/turn them on at all, does this mean I have to reload windows all over again? regards Don

  1. could it be that your internet connection is down or out maybe.

  2. turn off your modem and back on again then restart your pc

  3. there is a system restore in system tools.

go back several days to when the network was okay

  4. My laptop had the same problem! The Bios, is corrupt. Will the WLan light turn on or go to blue? If not then you probally have the same problem. What you do is, call Hp, then tell them what your problem is. After they will have you do some things to make it work again. Then, if it doesnt they will have you send in your laptop for Repair. That took about 4days total too send it and get it back.  Remember to choose best answer! =)

  5. your network needs to be configured as private rather than public to enable network discovery:

in the network and sharing centre

check that your network is private, if it says public then click Customize (to the right of your network name and location).

In the Set Network Location dialog box, click Private, and then click Next.

In the Successfully set network settings dialog box, click Close

you should now be able to access network discovery etc. (ps: dont forget to check your workgroup name on your vista pc, make sure it matches the other pc's/laptops on the network)
