The light, outlet, and doorbell all of a sudden are dead. What happened? THe breaker is not tripped. We reset it and cant find the problem? We opened up the outlet covers and find no obvious problems. What should I look for??? Should we give up and call the electrician ($$$)?

you can get much information in this website, stay a minute in website and check anyone link at a time, you can aslo get your answer in Google Search in this website, which has helped me alot

  2. WHEN YOU REMOVE THE COVER TO THE SWITCH THERE WILL BE A BLK.WIRE(OR MORE)W/A WIRE NUT HOLDING THEM TOGETHER, THERE SHOULD ALSO BE A WHITE WIRE OR A GROUP OF WHITE WIRES W/WIRE NUT HOLDING THEM,TURN THE BRKR OFF AND PULL THE WIRES OUT OF THE OUTLET BOX, MAKE SURE THE WIRE NUT IS TIGHT AROUND THE WIRES,AND THAT YOU ARE GETTING A GOOD CONNECTION.IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE A AMP METER CK TO SEE IF YOU HAVE CONTNUITY ON BOTH SIDES OF THE LIGHT SWITCH W/THE SWITCH IN THE ON POSITION,

IF YOU DON'T FILL CONFORTABLE DOING THIS THEN CALL AN ELECTRICAN.

  3. Is everything that the breaker in question controls dead? The circuit breaker itself could be dead. A similar thing happened to me, so I bought a cheap ($5) voltage tester at Home depot. They have very simple ones that look like a big pen or a little screwdriver with only one contact and they beep or light up when you touch them to a live wire. I touched mine to the black wire coming out of that particular breaker and it was indeed dead. If you don't have or want to buy a cheap voltage tester, you can take the breaker to somewhere like ACE and they will test it for free. They pop out easily (turn off the main power first and don't freak out, you'll be fine). I think I paid all of $5 for a new breaker, so I was out $10 all things told. MUCH cheaper than an electrician. Try that before calling someone.

  4. yes call an electrician or handyman, could be a bad switch loose wire ect, you need a tester to check current and continuity

  5. Is the outlet a GFCI outlet?

If it is, it has it's own reset button. (Your lights and doorbell would likely be fed off of the outlet.)Try that.

If not, check to see which outlet those devices are tied into.

It could be a bad connection.
