Question:

All of my colored towels have "bleach" stains on them and I don't know why??

I keep buying brand new towels and they all look fine until I wash them in my front loader with Tide HE only. No bleach, no color safe bleach, and no fabric softener. Can anyone tell me why they have spotty "bleach like" stains all over them?? This does not happen from whitening toothpaste or other products....only when they go through the wash the first or second time. Any ideas as to why??

  1. If you are pouring the detergent directly onto the towels, this could cause this. Always let it fill, then add the detergent.=)

  2. You're buying good quality towels? If they're junky I can see why they would fade and get discolored. Walmart sells some towels for $1.50 and I can tell just by looking at them that they belong in the trash! I bought some at Walmart for $5 each and they hold up really well. I had a set of them for 2 years now and no problems.

If you never use bleach in your washing machine, it could be the detergent. Try using something different, I know you want to be efficient and use a good product like Tide, but sometimes fabrics aren't dyed with a good enough dye.

If you use bleach in the machine, just not on your towels, there could be bleach residue left from the previous load. I would suggest running the rinse cycle twice to reduce the possiblity of this.

Good luck, towels aren't cheap if you have to keep buying them over and over again!

P.S. if all else fails, buy white towels!
