  1. I was in 4-H for 11 years.  It is a program mainly about animals for kids to learn, experience, and show them.  Head, heart, hands, and health it stands for.  It's a great program.  I did everything from showing horses, breeding rabbits, woodworking, sewing, cooking, etc.

All rabbits are cheap.  Watch out for the dwarfs; the years of inbreeding it took to make them that small really takes a toll on their personalities.  They can be nasty.  I breed holland lops.  I've bred many breeds of rabbits and the hollands are by far the most friendly and they love attention.

  2. I have no idea what a 4-H is, but I looked on Google and it said something about shows.

Hmm.. I usually sell my mini lops for $25 each.

But it depends on their colour. White ones with blue eyes cost more because they're quite rare.

I'm not to sure about dwarfs, but I believe they'd be around the same price. xD

  3. Hello,

I would recommend making the investment to buy high quality stock. There is not a particular breed that is cheaper than others. Quality and price varies from breeder to breeder.

If you are wanting to get started I would recommend Havanas, Dutch, Florida Whites or Himalayans. They are docile and have a decent amount of  competition at shows but not an excessive amount.

The Dwarf Hotots are more rare and it is difficult to find good show stock. The other breeds you mentioned are VERY competitive and it is be expensive to get good stock.

Rather than search out the cheapest rabbit you can buy, first a few ARBA shows in your area and watch the different breeds being judged. Talk to breeders and do your research before jumping in and buying rabbits. You can find a list of shows on the ARBA website.

Once you have narrowed down your choices, visit the National breed specialty club websites: http://arba.net/Breeds.htm

Talk to the people in the clubs, learn more about the breed and make a final decision.

Once you are ready, here is a link to a breeder directory: http://www.rabbitandcavydirectory.com/

I cannot say this enough, do not buy the cheapest stock you can find. Showing rabbits is not a cheap hobby. It takes some investment in good starter stock to be able to win.
