I have a 10 gallon tank, with several varieties of polyps, a small frogspawn, a cleaner shrimp, and about 10 pounds of live rock, formed in the shape of an arch Still plenty of 'swimming room'

My problem, I have hair algae. A LOT OF IT! I have tried everything in my power. Feeding my shrimp little to no food, changing the food, small water changes(about a gallon of water) every other day, then every day, and still no luck. So I am here to ask your assistance. I know blennies usually have quite the appetite for hair algae, but could I get away with a juvenile in my tank for a little while? I have a friend, and she has a 29 gallon tank, so if he/she grows too large, he/she could go there. Would that really be necessary? What would be a good species or my situation? Anything else I could try? Also, this tank is over a year old, so it is good for fish, as I have had fish in it before.

  1. yeah u can get a blennie u you know it can eat it. u probably have too much light...

but im not a saltwater expert....im just using my head.

  2. Basic ways to keep algae growth down are fairly simple.

    1. dont overfeed (but you knew that)

    2. water changes. if your using tap water thats a problem. use Reverse osmosis water its purchasable at your local shopping center for about 25-33 cents per gallon

    3. cut down on the time your tank light is on during the day also if the tank is catching alot of direct sunlight it will make algae grow like wildfire

blennies are awesome fish and id recomend getting one even if you dident have a lawn in your tank to mow but you should nail down why the algae is growing in your tank at such a rate first and correct the problem a tank growing a normal amount of algae will produce plenty of food for your new addition.
