Is it so terrible that they get taxed more.. when the govt. spend billions every year on road safety, road improvement, road maintenance, building new roads and tunnels..

I'd be quite happy if London had only bus lanes, to be quite honest. Isn't it only fair that they (motorists) pay more taxes than the rest of us?

  1. If, like me, you lived in a rural community in North Yorkshire where farming is the main occupation away from the cities then you wouldn't be too quick to say what you have about motorists. How do you think the shops in London are supplied? By big red bus? By barge on the Thames?  and where do you suppose your food comes from - yes, that's right - farming communities. If i lived in London i too would use buses and the excellent train services. Some areas just outside York don't have a bus service! - can you imagine that in 2008? Our trains are few and far between except for the main east coast line and therefore we have to get around in cars - mine's a volvo xc90 4x4, i need it as an ATV and it does 39 miles to the gallon with an economiser fitted and it will carry seven people. Its' emissions are less than a small saloon car. I owe nobody an apology for raging against this cretinous government and the horrendous taxation they have imposed on fuel - but then again most of them don't know what or where the countryside is and couldn't care less - if they lived in it they'd soon change their tack!

  2. Road improvement, road safety etc, well Ill tell you this, Up here in NE Scotland, the state of the roads are a disgrace, and did you know that Inverness and Aberdeen are the only 2 major cities in the UK that are not connect by a dual carriageway or motorway!

So I have no idea what the govt. up here spends our road taxes on, since it certainly is not the roads.

  3. If your so happy to pay more for tax, then why don't you give me a hand with mine?

Being a student who needs a car to drive to college (20 miles) and work (20 miles) with the only alternative to get 3 buses, and making a round trip of over 4 hours.

Typical Londoner, complete ignorence for anyone living outside of London. There is a country outside of the M25 you know.

  4. Motorists...Bah!.......

  5. I'm a motorist and motorcylist- I don't moan, at present I have 6 vehicles all taxed and insured when in fact I can only use one at a time.

If people are really upset about the cost they should protest for a decent public transport system and stop motoring.

  6. Motorists need to be taxed out of their cars. And I say that as a motorist. Cyclists, pedestrians and environment should ALWAYS come first.

  7. Dont get sucked in to propaganda...The car is a fantastic piece of engineering..They should be appreciated, not frowned upon..They serve a great & nesesary purpose to most and to tax the live out of the motorist is Madness..Also spare a thought for all the people who work in the motor trade...their getting slaughterd..CARS  ARE  GREAT>>

  10. "when the govt. spend billions every year on road safety, road improvement, road maintenance, building new roads and tunnels.."

Which Christmas cracker did you get that rubbish from!

If the money paid in tax went on improving the roads it wouldn't be so bad, but it doesn't.  Neither will the green tax be spent on improving the environment, it may, however, go towards the upkeep of the MP's second home expenses.

  11. lol you want to live where i live the roads are a joke, god only knows where my taxes are going but they are certainly not going on the roads :)
