    11. no favors

    12.i didnt toss my bouquet!

    13. over all my wedding was 75k

  2. I am getting married next year but can still answer all the questions for the most part!

    1. What kind of dress did/will you wear? It's an A-line. Here is the link to the dress itself. http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?...

I love the fabric on it and how it flatters all the right parts on me.

    2. What was your color scheme and/or theme? Our color scheme is tiffany blue, ivory, with black accents. I am trying to find ivory items with blue and black filigree or subtle patterns.

    3. what month was your wedding in? did you base your colors on that season? We are getting married July 4th. I so did not base my colors on that!!! I am doing tiffany blue because it has a bit of green in it so people don't think red, white, and blue for the 4th of July. And I stayed away from red altogether.

    4. what did your bridesmaids wear? what color & type of bouquets? My bridesmaids are wearing this dress, in tiffany blue with a black sash. I asked them to get black shoes and black accessories if they want to wear them. http://www.morilee.com/DressDetail.aspx?... I haven't decided on flowers $100 percent but I am thinking black calla lilies OR Cream and black or just black tulips in bud. (I am going to be doing a tulip bouquet so might match that)

    5. where was your ceremony/reception? indoor or outdoor? I am having my reception on the penthouse (9th floor) of a building and am lucky enough to have both indoor and outdoor areas. So we are going to have the dance floor inside (since it will be warm), dining inside and outside (outside will be a canopy over part of it), and will have a great view of the fireworks.

    6. did you use silk flowers? how much did all your flowers cost (bouquets, boutonnières, & decorations?) I am going very minimalist on flowers. We are doing real bouquets, boutonnières, and the family corsages but my decoration flowers are going to be silk. I am only using about 3 silk gardenias to float per table and that's about it. No elaborate pieces or flower bouquets around the rooms.  Definitely plan on spending less than 1000 on them, probably closer to $500-$600.

    7. how much of the planning was DIY? did you make everything yourself? I am doing all the planning myself with a lot of help from family and friends (mostly reassurance, I second guess myself a lot). I am making most of the things myself (can't find bows for the chair covers I want so making them, I am making my own favors, etc.)

    8. what did your centerpieces look like? I am having two types of center pieces, both pretty simple. First, three to five glass cylindrical vases in different heights. I am going to be either floating gardenias, putting a floating candle, or submerging flowers in each vase. I haven't decided if I am going to put rocks or gems in the bottom of the glasses or color the water. My second one will be large round fishbowl glasses and I will float 2-3 each of gardenias and floating candles. Put these on a black napkin and we're set.

    9. what songs did you use? (processional, presenting of wedding party at the reception, first dance, father/daughter?)

-Processional will be Canon in D.

-Presenting the Wedding Party will be something to do with the University of Florida (their fight song or something, I let my fiance chose that one...what was I thinking).

-First dance is "Because of you" sung by Tony Bennett and Kady Lang.

-Father/Daughter dance is kind of country but we're doing "I loved her first" by Heartland.

-Son/Mother dance is going to be "Your Song" by Garth Brooks (I don't get it, we are not big country fans but chose country songs....)

-Last Dance - "Last Dance' by Frank Sinatra!

We are using a DJ for the reception but will be having a string quartet at the actual wedding.  Love strings!

    10. what kind of food did you serve? was it buffet style? We are having a sit down dinner, which is basically unheard of where we are from (it was a nightmare trying to organize it) but we are having three choices. A Top Sirloin, Chicken Oscar, and Glazed Salmon. We will be having a salad, bread, intermizzo (lemon sorbet), and then the main dish which will be served with garlic mashed red potatoes and chilled asparagus with hollandaise sauce. And cake later of course.

    11. did you have favors? what were they? I am making my own favors. I am hand-making assorted chocolate truffles and am putting them in a...I'll say ring box for lack of a better term, the cardboard box that the plush engagement ring box is put into. Getting blue and black boxes and tying them with opposite (black and blue) ribbon and a little card attached to each one. We will be putting them at the table at each person's seat.

    12. garter toss? is that tacky? what about money bags? I am not doing a garter/bouquet toss basically because I don't think any single guys are really coming and the only people who are not married are basically my bridesmaids so...odd. We are going to stand in the middle of the floor and divide couples on the sides of the room then ask people progressively who has been married the longest (1 year, 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, etc.) and will end up getting to his grandparents who have been married 60 years!!! And then we will present them with the bouquet and have them do a dance - to the same song they danced to at their wedding.  Money bags definitely not, nor are we doing a money dance or money tree or anything similar.

    13. how much did your wedding cost all together? I have budgeted including the wedding rings, whole wedding, sunday brunch, honeymoon, etc about 25-28K but it is still a year away and I have been able to save money in certain areas so hope that we can bring that down to about 20-22K

Congratulations and best of luck planning your own wedding!! Hope to hear from you on the board.

  3. 1. what kind of dress did/will you wear? mermaid, ballgown, a-line? what did it look like?

My dress was a silk dropped waist dress...

    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/b...

    2. what was your color scheme and/or theme?

Everything was black and white with red roses...very simple yet elegant.

    3. what month was your wedding in? did you base your colors on that season?

Our wedding was in June, had no affect on the colors for us.

    4. what did your bridesmaids wear? what color & type of bouquets?

The bridesmaids wore black, tea length dresses and each had 12 red roses w/ baby's breath

    http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g284/b...

    5. where was your ceremony/reception? indoor or outdoor?

It was indoor at the Horizon Convention Center in Muncie, Indiana

    6. did you use silk flowers? how much did all your flowers cost (bouquets, boutonnieres, & decorations?)

We used real flowers, however, we put together most of our own bouquets, I ordered mine- 2 dozen red roses and it was $165 and then I ordered 200 red roses on flowersandfreshness.com for $170.  We used those for all of the rest of our bouquets, boutonnieres, and decorations, we also gave a single red rose to each woman attending.  It is really easy to make your own bouquets.

    7. how much of the planning was DIY? did you make everything yourself?

I made my own veil and we did our own flowers, that was pretty much all we did.

    8. what did your centerpieces look like?

They were pretty, red roses floating on water in a small bowl (like a small fishbowl) on a mirror with rose petals scattered around it

    9. what songs did you use? (processional, presenting of wedding party at the reception, first dance, father/daughter?)

The mothers & grandmothers were seated by the groom to Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring

The wedding party came to Pachelbel Canon

I walked to the Here comes the bride song

we receded to the normal recessional

We were presented at the reception to Final Countdown

Our first dance was "Bigger Than Us" by Andy Davis

The Father Daughter Dance was "Proud Father" by Jon McLaughlin

The Mother Son Dance was "You are the Sunshine of my Life" by Stevie Wonder

The Last Dance was December 1963 (Oh What A Life)

    10. what kind of food did you serve? was it buffet style?

We had heavy hor d'ourves- we had a turkey carving station, fruit tray, veggie tray, cheese & crackers, it was buffet style

    11. did you have favors? what were they?

We gave a single rose to each woman as she was seated at the wedding and bubbles for them to blow (with a red ribbon) as we left

    12. garter toss? is that tacky? what about money bags?

we did a garter toss, but he didn't take it off with his teeth, I would suggest a card box or card cage to put on the gift table over a money bag.

    13. how much did your wedding cost all together?

    about $7,000

  4. wahhh.

    babydoll!

I went to a wedding and helped plan some stuff so I can answer these(im only 15)

    1. what kind of dress did/will she wear? mermaid, ballgown, a-line? what did it look like? Okay, she wore this really amazing dress(I have pictures!)It was white, really long, but not like a cinderella styled dress, and had an amazing long train and veil.

    2. what was her color scheme and/or theme? Blue, Sky-ish/Baby Blue.x.x

    3. what month was her wedding in? did you base your colors on that season? I believe it was last month. I think on the 26th and I don't think she did.

    4. what did her bridesmaids wear? what color & type of bouquets? They wore blue gowns(like I said), that seemed to be really really long. The bouquets were blue and white, fake flowers.

    5. where was her ceremony/reception? indoor or outdoor?

It started off at a church, started a bit late, so indoors than the after party was at the brides house in her backyard. :D

    6. did she use silk flowers? how much did all your flowers cost (bouquets, boutonnieres, & decorations?)

Yes silk. Uhm...lemme see if I can remember this...she had some lady down the street do it..soo I think it was like 500 dollars or something.

DIY? If you mean done by herself, than basically yeah.

    lol...dance/rap music...

    10. what kind of food did they serve? was it buffet style?

Yeah buffet, there was ham, rice, beans, etc not very classy but good, but the bride wound up getting really pissed at them because the lady who was catering the food, dumped out basically all the food and took the rest and made a party somewhere else.

    11. did they have favors? what were they? There were a few lights, like japanese styled ones, and blue christmas lights.

    12. garter toss? is that tacky? what about money bags?

lol. garter toss no so not tacky. A young man caught it and put it on some single girls legs then took it off.xD

    13. how much did their wedding cost all together?

I believe it was around 10 or 5k, I think the buffet and bridesmaid dresses along with the brides and the brides bouquet wrapped that all up.

  7. We are pretty traditional, not trendy, but I am answering anyways haha!

    1. what kind of dress did/will you wear? mermaid, ballgown, a-line? what did it look like?

    - a-line, basque waist, all-over beaded bodice, beaded hem, chapel train, champagne color, beaded straps, low back.

    2. what was your color scheme and/or theme?

    - turquoise and orange with champagne accents, no theme

    3. what month was your wedding in? did you base your colors on that season?

    - August 1st, we didn't base our colors on the season but they ARE summer colors.

    4. what did your bridesmaids wear? what color & type of bouquets?

    - My mom and I are making bridesmaid the dresses. Mystique satin, A-line, modified sweetheart neckline, full length, empire waist with hand-beaded band, color called Baja Blue. The girls love the fact that they can wear normal bras and underwear! Their bouquets are modified teardrops with lilies, roses, alstromeria and other filler flowers in orange, peach and ivory colors.

    5. where was your ceremony/reception? indoor or outdoor?

    - Ceremony indoors at our church. Reception at a local winery with outdoor and indoor areas.

    6. did you use silk flowers? how much did all your flowers cost (bouquets, boutonnieres, & decorations?)

    - No silk flowers, all real fresh flowers. We have spent $2600 on the flowers for all bouquets, boutonnieres, & decorations.

    7. how much of the planning was DIY? did you make everything yourself?

    - We are doing wine and cheese baskets as favors and we are making those ourselves. We bought the baskrets in bulk, the wine form the winery and the cheese and crackers in bulk as well (not due to arrive until five days before the wedding!). We made our own save the dates from printable business cards. We made our own invitations and place cards using a kit from AC Moore. My mom and I are doing the alterations to my gown and making the BM dresses. We assembled and stamped all of the cake boxes.

    8. what did your centerpieces look like?

    - gold low bowls with large, lush flower arrangements including roses, lilies, hydrangeas, orchids, daisies and other flowers. The center of each one has a small golden shepard's crook coming up from it with gold numbers hanging from it to identify the table.

    9. what songs did you use? (processional, presenting of wedding party at the reception, first dance, father/daughter?)

    - still debating lol

    10. what kind of food did you serve? was it buffet style?

    - Appetizers are butlered hot and cold. Dinner is sit-down. Salad, sherbert, entree (choice of fish, beef or chicken) and vegetables, rolls and butter, wine. Dessert is an assortment of cakes, pies, eclairs, ice cream and fruit. We are having a wedding cake but it is being boxed and sent home with everyone at the end of the night.

    11. did you have favors? what were they?

    - Wine and cheese baskets. A bottle of the winery's wine with complimenting cheeses and crackers and a small bunch of handblown glass grapes as an accent.

    12. garter toss? is that tacky? what about money bags?

Garter toss is tradition in my fiance's family. I don't have much of an opinion on it. The money bag is just for the bride to put cards in as she walks around, not tacky.

    13. how much did your wedding cost all together?

    - ~$22k, not including honeymoon or rings

  8. Okay, here we go...

    1.  http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=97...

    2.  We were going to have colours matching the kilt my husband was going to wear...but ended up not.  We had royal blue as a colour.

    3.  May - nope to the colours.

    4.  Only had a MOH, and she actually had a bridesmaid dress (from another wedding) that matched perfectly!!  Her flowers were fire and ice roses.

    5.  Ceremony and reception were held in a 4 star hotel in our city.

    6.  Real flowers.  I had red roses.  Didn't buy flowers for decorations because the hotel provided.  Flowers in total cost $300.

    7.  Made sash and veil.  Made centerpieces, favors.

    8.  Hotel provided candlelights and flowers.  Our centerpieces were framed love quotes.  30 frames from the dollar store = $30.

    9.  Celtic Women's Ave Maria.  Grow Old With You, Adam Sandler, something by the Beatles.  Wonderful World or something like that by Iz.  First dance was Lost in You by Chris Gains.  Parents dance was Annie's Song by John Denver (my mother used to call me Annie).

    10.  Buffet style.  Hotel provided food - Amazing food!!!  Roast, 6 salads, 3 potatoes, veggies, fruit, amazing dessert.

    11.  My mother had breast cancer, his mother had lung cancer and passed away from brain cancer.  Our favors were homemade chocolate ribbons in the colors of the cancers our mothers have had.

    12.  EWWWW!!  Garter toss is super tacky.  Never heard of money bag...  I did wear my mothers garter from when she got married!

    13.  Sorry, not answering this one...

  9. 1. We had a July wedding, but my gown wasn't a summery dress! I had totally fallen in love with a very traditional gown made of heavy bridal satin with long sleeves, cathedral train - embellished with crystals, pearls and some lace, wore a small tiara and fingertip veil.

    2. Theme was "A Wedding" - lol. Colours were lilac, pink, yellow and light teal.

    3. July wedding. We knew we wanted happy, pretty colors for a wedding.

    4. I hadn't had preconceived ideas of style of dresses nor colours, before we went shopping. The women totally fell in love with a printed dress - it was tea length, embossed white fabric with kind of watercoloured tiny flowers sprinkled on it (not busy) in colours of lilac, pink, yellow and light teal leaves. It had an open back with three criss-crossed straps, front was deep vee-neck, a beautiful basque waist to full tea length skirt. They wore white pumps.

There was a MOH and three bridesmaids paired with corresponding men. Each couple had a "colour" - for example, the MOH wore a small wreath of pink silk flowers in her hair, and she had pink ribbons trailing from her bouquet. The men wore gray suits - so her corresponding Best Man had a pink tie and cummerbund. It looked SO cool with all these different coloured couples - not too matchy-matchy, just unusual!

Their bouquets were smaller versions of mine - a European handtied bouquet of a variety of flowers in the wedding colours - roses, carnations, stargazer lily, alstromeria, mums, etc.

    5. Ceremony was in our home city church - ceremony in Ukrainian, done by my husband's brother who was our parish priest at the time, along with two other priests who were friends.

Reception was at a hotel ballroom.

    6. All flowers were fresh. Cost was just under 800.

    7. I only put the favours together. Someone I worked with made small centerpieces with silk flowers. Used fresh flowers for head table.

    8. Main centerpiece for head table was tiered and decorated Ukrainian wedding breads called korovai. Also used fresh flower centerpieces.

    9. Song for processional into church was a Ukrainian hymn to Mary - my husband and I walked up the aisle together. We walked into the reception to some funky Ukrainian music. First dance was a beautiful Ukrainian love ballad.

    10. An amazing buffet for the meal - Baron of beef; turkey, baked ham; baby roasted potatoes; hot veggies; about eight kinds of salads and marinated vegetables; buns, cheeses, pickles; variety of cheesecakes and dainties for dessert.

    11. Favours were multicoloured baby mints wrapped in tulle and ribbon; a bread-dough handmade dove (done by the women who made the wedding breads); engraved matches and napkins.

    12. Did bouquet toss, and yes - garter toss (a big regret - if I had thought, sure wouldn't have done it.) My niece a few years later threw an embroidered hankie with chocolate kisses in it, so I liked that idea.

    No other grubbing for money...

    13. Husband and I paid around $25k for hosting around 200 guests. No honeymoon!

    Whew! long answer!

  10. Have fun planning your wedding - mine is coming up in two weeks - I'm glad the planning is almost over but excited to see how it all comes together.

    1. My dress is a Pnina Tornai fitted gown, all Alencon lace with beading - it has a cutout back and a deep V neck.  I purposely chose a gown that was not strapless because I feel like strapless is a bit too expected right now.

    2. My color scheme is champagne and pink

    3. My wedding with be in August (2 weeks!) I thought that my colors would work in the summer, but I chose them based on the feeling I wanted the wedding to have (old fashioned hollywood glamour)

    4. My bridesmaids are wearing champagne satin and lace dresses from Jenny Yoo with a lace bolero.

    http://www.jennyyoo.com/lace_organza02.h...

    5. My ceremony and reception will both be outdoors (tented) in my parent's backyard

    6. No, I did not use silk flowers - we are going with the real thing even though my fiance is very allergic!!  Our total flower cost is about $5000 - we went with a pretty upscale florist, this is an area we could have definetly cut back.

    7. I tried to do as little as possible - I don't really have the time or the patience.  Things I did do myself - calligraphy invites, place cards, etc., assemble invites, put favor tags on favors, create goody bags for the kids and welcome baskets for the out of town guests, create the wedding program.

    8. We are doing long rectangular tables, with long low centerpieces spread along the center of the table and interspersed with pillar candles.  I wanted to keep the centerpieces low so that people can talk more easily.

    9. Presenting of the Wedding Party: Glamorous (Fergie)

First Dance: L-O-V-E (Nat King Cole) - we had our dance choreographed, I HIGHLY recommend this.  No 3 minutes of random swaying on the dance floor!!

    10. We're having a sit down dinner - I personally don't think a buffet ever ends up being as good as a sit down because the food has time to sit and get cold.

    11. Our favors are a 180ml bottle of champagne and two truffles from Vosges Haute Chocolate per couple.  We also have pashminas that people can take just incase it gets chilly.

    12. We're not doing a garter toss or a bouquet toss - I do think they're tacky.  I've also told my fiance that if he smashes cake in my face he will be divorced by the next morning!

    13. Our budget has been shot to h**l - I'm pretty sure we're over 80k at this point...

  16. 1.  A-line, plain white satin, with a sash.  Two classmates since then, as well as the bride who got married the Friday before the wedding wore the same dress (with different sashes).

    http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridal_gowns...

    2.  Black & white.

    3. October.  No.

    4.  Strapless, knee-length, A-line dresses, in white, with a black organza overlay.  Very similar to this one, but in a different color (obviously), and with some embroidery at the bust line.

    http://www.davidsbridal.com/bridesmaids_...

    5.  Outdoor ceremony, indoor reception.  Both at the same location, which does a lot of weddings.  They have an on-site wedding coordinator, which was a HUGE help!  Sunset ceremony in the garden, evening reception looking over the garden.

    6.  Real flowers.  Had a friend of a friend who worked at one of the nicer local florists.  Gave us the bouquets at or below their standard minimum.  Had simple bouquets.  Just red roses for the bride, and white roses with lilies for the bridesmaids.  Red rose boutonnieres and white lily corsages rounded out the live flowers.  The total came to about $700.  Used silk flower petals to edge the aisle, and to sprinkle on the table tops.  They were not expensive in the slightest, although I don't recall the total...got them at Michael's craft store.

    7.  Little DIY, really.  Only made the table numbers and set out the decorations.  BTW, get friends to help with this...you won't have time when you're trying to get ready!  Made the table numbers with black construction paper, cut into strips that were then folded into triangles to stand upright.  A friend used her crimping machine to crimp white paper that had been cut into the appropriate number shapes...a glue stick and done!

    8.  The tables were set with white tablecloths, and black napkins.  The chairs had white covers, with black sashes (matched the bride's dress).  Each table had one black napkin unfolded in the center, with white silk rose petals, and Hershey's Hugs sprinkled over it (plus table numbers and disposable cameras at each table).  There really wasn't room for anything bigger, as the tables were pretty full by the time they were set.

    9.  Processional for everyone was Mendelssohn's Wedding March.  No music for wedding party presentation.  First dance was to Celine Dion's Because You Loved Me.  Mother-Son dance was Wind Beneath My Wings and Father-Daughter dance was Israel Kamakawiwo Ole's version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  Also had a special dance for the grandparents, who were celebrating their 40th anniversary on the day of the wedding...Etta James' At Last.

    10.  At our location, buffet was much more expensive than a seated meal (not always the case, so check prices carefully).  Appetizers were served between the ceremony & reception (while photos were being taken), and guests had their choice of Pasta Primavera (lots of vegetarian friends), Chicken Picatta, or wood-fired Strip Steak.

    11.  No favors, except for the candy in the middle of the table.  Couldn't find anything that wasn't either ridiculously expensive, or super tacky.

    12.  Definitely a garter toss.  I've never been to a wedding that didn't have one.  Never heard it called tacky, either, but that may just be the group I hang with.  I've never heard of a money bag...what is that?

    13.  Just under $13,000.
