All you Massage Therapist's: What are your best stone massage techniques?

I have been practicing stone massage for over a year now, and for some reason...just can't get into it. I feel like the stones are clumsy in my hands and I can't stand doing an 80 minute massage. I get bored. I kind of just learned by myself and from one of those DVDs, so I'm guessing there has to be some tricks to this modality. What are your best moves? Any advice would be welcome and greatly appreciated!

  1. I know how you feel, but my problem is my hands are too heat sensitive. So by the time the rocks are cool enough for me to hold them, they are too cool for my client. I end up getting burned. So instead I like doing what's called an Oriental Hot Rocks. I take about seven large rocks that are shaped like the muscles of where I am putting them, for example the one on the sacrum is triangle. Then I have the client lay face down, and put a towel on their backs. I take the super heated rocks and place them in order on the back, two across until I get to the sacrum. Then I roll the rocks in the towel so they can be moved quickly if there's a problem. They lie like that for about thirty minutes and then I start the massage, and their muscles are like butter! I prefer that treatment. Good luck!

  2. If you don't like, it you don't have to do it.

Boredom really just means you aren't present with your client.

Try looking at it as something new and exciting to learn -not just something you have to do.

    Take some classes in it.
