Type your zip code in here so you can see where you have drive the new cfl light bulbs to be disposed of properly because it is going to be against the law to throw those mercury bulbs in the garbage

If one happens to break here is how you have to clean it up.

DO NOT touch it yourself. You have to call and have it removed or you are spreading mercury by touching the broken bulb yourself. Does anybody know is it hazmat or Osha or another place that has to remove your broken bulb and how much is it they charge????

  1. You have to do the same thing with any florescent light bulb.

  2. all I do is recycle.

  3. You are suppose to bring it to a recycling center with florescent bulbs too but not that many people do.

  4. it is true that it is the law, but not many people  do it, it is hard to prove when people dump them.

  5. In Oregon, fluorescent bulbs are defined as 'Universal Waste' and must be properly recycled if the business is listed as a small or large quantity generator by EPA.  Homeowners and conditionally exempt generators are encouraged to recycle but can throw into a landfill if the landfill accepts that waste.  As far as I know it is acceptable for a homeowner to clean up the broken bulb and dispose in the trash (preferably sealed in a bag).
