Alla Kudryavtseva cripples Yi-Miao Zhou in the opening round – PTT Pattaya Open 2012
Russian star, Alla Kudryavtseva, trounced the Chinese qualifier, Yi-Miao Zhou, with a breadstick at the PTT Pattaya Open 2012 on Tuesday. She registered a 6-1, 7-5 victory over the world number 627 to book a place in the round of 16 at this WTA International
event taking place after the Australian Open.
The Moscow native outclassed the qualifier completely after registering an impressive victory at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Pattaya City. Both contestants previously met each other at the Beijing WTA event three years ago and after earning this success, Kudryavtseva
improved to a 2-0 head-to-head record against the Chinese.
The 24-year-old thundered into the opening set and went on a five games killing spree before Zhou could hold on. The Russian then kept her serve once more and pocketed the opener with an exceptional 6-1 win.
She formulated a slightly higher first serve share but superbly clicked 10 out of 13 points on it. She was never threatened with any breakpoint and cashed in both break opportunities.
Kudryavtseva carried her winning ways into the following set and earned the desiderated break in the third game to eventually go 3-1 up. Later she held remaining serves but lost her concentration in the eighth game, subsequently levelling the scores at 4-4.
However, the Russian wiped out the final three games successively and clinched the set with a 7-5 score line.
The highly energetic Russian clobbered a lower first serve share this time but covered it up by hitting four aces. She also amazingly earned 11 out of 14 points on her first serve share and converted two out of five break opportunities to her advantage.
Next up for the Russian is the conqueror of the match between the eighth seed, Vania King, and the British rising star, Heather Watson.
Kudryavtseva’s top seeded compatriot, Vera Zvonareva, will accompany her in the second round. She dumped a local qualifier, Varatchaya Wongteanchai, in straight sets to book this pre-quarter round. Zvonareva lost her serve three times but broke her rival’s
serve six times to prevail.
The world number eight will next face the winner of the match between the British icon, Laura Robson, and Uzbekistan’s Akgul Amanmuradova.
