Alla Kudryavtseva expels Vesna Dolonts in 1st
round – Tashkent Open 2011
The continuation of the first round of Tashkent Open 2011 started on Tuesday the 13th of September. The event took place at the Olympic School Tennis Courts and the two contenders were compatriots; the number six seed Alla Kudryavtseva
and un-seeded Vesna Dolonts. Both the players competed for 1 hour and 37 minutes until finally number 6 seeded made history as she beat her younger compatriot in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5.
The coin was flipped by the chair umpire and winning the toss was Kudryavtseva but she was broken in the first game by Dolonts. In the second game as Dolonts held her serve she took a 2-0 lead against Kudryavtseva. The younger
Russian (Kudryavtseva) finally pushed into top gear and held her serve in the third game.
She then went to break her adversary in the in the following game to equalize the score at 2-2. In the fifth game she then held her serve and in the sixth broke Dolonts to take the lead 4-2. She secured her victory as again she
held her serve in the seventh game and in the eighth game, Dolonts looked outraged as her forehand landed outside the court during the rally and she lost the set with a 2-6.
After taking a thrashing in the opening set Dolonts had learnt her lesson and although, she put a tremendous effort in the second set, she was still short on numbers.
Opening the second set was Kudryavtseva, who was broken in the first game, however not wanting to lose the second set; she broke back to even out the score at 1-1. In the following two games the players held their service games
and the score was equalized at 2-2. In the fifth game Dolonts broke Kudryavtseva and in the sixth secured a 4-2 lead. During the seventh game Kudryavtseva won on her serve and in the eighth game the score balanced out at 4-4.
In the ninth and tenth game the players again won on alternative serves to even the score at 5-5. In the eleventh game the sixth seeded held her serve to take the lead at 6-5. It was a close match between both the players as they
were neck on neck in their score. At such a crucial point in the match, as Dolonts was serving she came under pressure and committed a double! She not only lost the set but gave the match into Kudryavtseva’s hands.
Alla Kudryavtseva will now be facing her compatriot Vitalia Diatchenko in the second round of the Tashkent Open 2011.
