Allan Davis joins team GreenEdge for 2012 season – Cycling News
The professional Australian road race cyclist Allan Davis has decided to end his two year bonding with team Astana as he has signed with team GreenEdge for the coming seasons. Davis has changed seven teams since he started his career in 2001 with Mapei-Quick
Step and moved to Once-Eroski in 2003. The other teams that he has been with include Discovery Channel, Mitsubishi-Jartazi, Quick Step and Astana.
Davis has shown interest to represent his nation in future as he said, "I’ve always taken a lot of pride in representing Australia and wearing the green and gold. Watching people sing the national anthem when standing on the podium is something that I’ve
always been inspired by, regardless of what sport it is.”
The 31-year-old has decided to join the Australian team GreenEdge and is hopeful that he will be given the opportunity to ride for Australia in the future. He finished the World Championships 2003 at 12th position and was third in 2004 Championships.
Davis believes that he should still be given the chance to represent his country in the World events.
Most of the riders in team GreenEdge are Australians and that was the main attraction for Davis as he will be joining his compatriots in the team. Almost 75 percent of the total GreenEdge squad consists of Australian natives. Shayne Bannan is the general
manager of the team and is hopeful that the squad will be able to get a UCI Pro tour licence in the coming year.
Davis has been one of the most popular riders in Australia but has lost a lot of fans in the recent years because he has not been able to perform up to his standards. He is keen to represent Australia in the coming seasons and is eyeing a spot in the Australian
squad for the 2012 London Olympics and 2012 World Championships in Netherlands.
Team GreenEdge has not finalised their roster for the 2012 season but majority of the cyclists have already been given contracts. Some of the main riders to accompany Davis in the next season includes Jack Bobridge, Cameron Meyer, Svein Tuft, Matt Wilson,
Stuart O'Grady, Michael Albasini, Pieter Weening, Matt Goss, Leigh Howard, Simon Gerrans, Travis Meyer, Fumiyuki Beppu, Robbie McEwen, Jens Mouris, Daniel Teklehaymanot, Jens Keukeleire and Wesley Sulzberger.
