Allan Donald all set to sharpen the Kiwi Bowlers
Former South African fast bowler, Allan Donald has landed in New Zealand in a bid to raise the standard of bowling of the national team. Donald was recently hired by New Zealand Cricket as the bowling coach of the national squad.
The former pacer, also known as white lightening, aims to improve the overall attitude of the New Zealand bowlers. While talking to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 press, he said, "The big thing I always focus on is attitude and intensity. You're working with players who
know and understand their actions and their roles in the team, so you're not going to come in and over-coach things".
The South Africans have always been known as the players with the toughest attitude on the field, and that is exactly what Donald would be trying to maintain in the team.
Donald's first concern would be to toughen up the bowlers for the six-match ODI series against Pakistan, beginning from the 22nd January. Donald believes that the bowlers are good enough to rattle any batting attack, however, due to the lack of
aggression, the bowlers have received some pounding in their recent outings.
The South African has been particularly impressed by the pace sensation, Tim Southee, and believes that Southee has all the aggression which is needed in a fast bowler. The young Kiwi has had a good Test series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, where he took two wickets
in the first Test, in Hamilton, and then four wickets in the second Test, in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864.
Donald, felt that Southee needed a little guidance to channel his aggression in the right direction. "He's got a bit of white line fever and brings a lot to the table. It just needs to be channeled in the right direction, that aggression. But that's good-
that's the kind of attitude I'm talking about", he said while talking about the young pacer.
Donald, who was known for his aggression on the field during his time as a professional cricketer, asserted that talent alone can never be enough to make a bowler one of the greatest in the world. "The attitude towards the skill is the big factor, and that's
what we need to change", he said.
Donald knows that he has a tough task ahead of him as he has to prepare his bowlers to play the 2011 World Cup in an area where the Black Caps got a beating of a lifetime a few months ago, when they suffered whitewash defeats at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and minnows,
