Allan Peiper positive of Team Garmin-Sharp top performance at the UCI World Championships
Allan Peiper of Team Garmin-Sharp is optimistic that his six-man team is pretty much capable of performing to its best during the upcoming UCI Road World Championships, Teams Time Trial event.
He noted that the team is fully equipped with the top cyclists and if they find a good rhythm early on, they can finish within top six.
“Realistically, this team that we’ve got here is probably a well balanced team that fits well together”.
“I think if they can start a little bit conservatively and get into a good rhythm, hopefully we’ll have a shot of fourth to sixth place”.
The Team will miss the services of Dave Zabriskie, Christian Vande Velde and Tom Danielson and their exclusion will certainly influence the team’s performance at the World’s event.
All the three mentioned cyclists were seen in action at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and Vande Velde managed to claim an overall victory at the race.
Allan noted that that the trio were left out of the event only because of their long season and has nothing to do with the USADA’s investigation into their former side, Team US Postal.
“They rode in Colorado and did a great job there but you can’ keep backing that up. Although we would have loved to have had them here, it just hasn’t happened. I think we’ve got a great line up of even balanced riders,” Peiper said.
Thomas Dekker, Johan Vansummeren, Jack Bauer, Martijn Maaskant, Andrew Talansky and Ramunas Navardauskas will represent the team at the coming event. David Millar also trained along but withdrew just before the event.
The American team is not the only side that is finding it difficult to have their best men for the team’s time trial event.
Team Sky is facing same sort of difficulties as it will ride the event without two of its star riders, Christopher Froome and Bradley Wiggins.
The duo claimed the first two overall spot after the Tour de France overall classifications and Froome also rode the Vuelta a Espana which left him with no energy for the remaining events of the season.
