The 58-year-old tactician has expressed his delight after his side returned to winning ways on Tuesday, but has admitted that his side could have won the game by a bigger margin.
West Ham United head coach, Sam Allardyce, was unable to hide his delight following his side’s 2-1 win over Norwich City at the Boleyn Ground on Tuesday, January 1.
The Hammers were struggling to claim good results in the recent weeks, and were heading into the game on the back of two defeats in a row. “We have experienced the joy of winning again - it has been a while. It has been a torturous few games for me, but we have got what we deserved today, which is a win”, Allardyce was quoted as saying to journalists in the post-match press conference.
The Hammers commenced proceedings in front of their home crowd aggressively, and grabbed the lead within the opening three minutes when Mark Noble coolly converted a spot-kick.
Joey O’Brien doubled his side’s advantage in the 26th minute, as the Hammers continued to dominate proceedings on the pitch in the remaining action of the first-half.
After the break, the home side resumed action brightly yet again, and mounted immense pressure on the Canaries’ defence. However, they failed to convert their goalscoring opportunities.
Russell Martin netted a consolation goal for the visiting side at the stroke of full time whistle, as the Iron deservingly claimed a 2-1 victory.
Although Allardyce was pleased with the win, he admitted that his side could have won the game by a bigger margin had they converted their goalscoring opportunities.
“It's a shame that the score didn't reflect the performance. The win was very important to us, but it should have been about 4-1 or 5-1 based on the amount of chances created and missed. Apart from the goal they scored in the last minute, we have got the vital win were looking for and we deserved, right from the start to the very end”, Allardyce concluded.
West Ham United climbs up in the Premier League standings to snatch the 11th spot from Norwich City following the win.
