The Hammers had to settle for a point against West Bromwich Albion following a goalless stalemate on Sunday, and the former Newcastle United boss has heaped praise on his troops’ performance.
West Ham United manager, Sam Allardyce, was satisfied with the 0-0 draw against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns on Sunday, December 16.
The 58-year-old tactician was all praise for his side’s back-line that remained solid throughout the 90 minutes, but insisted that they could have claimed all three points should the front-line had shown a bit more incisiveness in front of goal.
“Overall we’re very pleased with a draw – we’ve obviously got back to our ways in terms of defending correctly. We kept it at 0-0 and if we’d have found a bit more quality in the final third we may have done a little more to try and score – we didn’t, but it was a very good, solid defensive performance”, Allardyce said while talking to reporters in the post-match press conference.
The former Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 boss went on to insist that his side’s back-line deserves a compliment, as they have managed to keep a clean sheet after five Premier league games.
“We've had a habit of conceding the first goal in the first half. We've cut that out today, we've tried to win it and it's a tough place to come”, Allardyce added.
The Hammers headed into the game with a number of first-team players sidelined due to injuries, and the English trainer admitted that bagging even a point against the Baggies seems to be good enough, as they are playing without most of their first-team players.
“We've six first-team players out injured so we're down to the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bare-c7300 bones. It was a real good, honest, solid performance from the players”, Allardyce concluded.
Both sides shared plenty of goalscoring opportunities in the opening half, but neither of the two managed to break the deadlock. After the half-time break, the home side resumed proceedings brightly, and could have taken the lead early on. However, James Morrison’s powerful strike hit the crossbar before going out for a goal-kick.
Morrison struck the crossbar yet again in the 73rd minute when he headed a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Brunt corner. Carlton Cole could have won the game for the Hammers at the stroke of full time whistle, but his effort was saved on the line by the hosts’ goalkeeper, Myhill.
