West Ham United head coach, Sam Allardyce, was extremely disappointed with his side’s 5-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal. The two sides met at Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, January 23.
The 58-year-old tactician admitted that he Gunners impressive start to the second-half stunned him, as they ripped apart the Hammers’ defence to net four goals within 10 minutes of action.
Lukas Podolski’s strike cancelled out Jack Collision’s opener in the first-half, as both sides resumed proceedings level on terms after the break. Olivier Giroud found the net in the 47th minute to give the home side a deserving lead.
Cazorla added his name to the score-sheet six minutes later to double his side’s advantage, while http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Walcott-c34873 made it 4-1 only a minute later. Giroud netted his second of the evening in the 57th minute to complete the rout.
“I'm just stunned by what happened at the start of the second half because we were so comfortable from a defensive point of view. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 was having a huge amount of possession, as you expect from them here, but their chances were few and far between”, Allardyce
was quoted as saying to the club’s official website.
The former Bolton Wanderers player and manager went on to heap praise on the Gunners’ impressive show, and admitted that they deserved to bag all three points.
“At the end of the day, when their players were flying like they were, you have got to be good in terms of your resilience at that time and we couldn't find the resilience to cope with their brilliance”, Allardyce concluded.
West Ham have dropped down to 12th place in the Premier League standings following the loss, only eight points clear of the danger zone.
The Hammers will lock horns against Fulham in their next league encounter at Craven Cottage on Wednesday, January 30. Allardyce would be gunning to return to winning ways against Martin Jol’s men, as his side has failed to bag all three points since their
win over Norwich City on January 1.
