Allegations of poor umpiring and ball tampering taint the final of the Quaid-i-Azam trophy
Pakistan’s domestic cricket tournament known as the Quaid-i-Azam trophy, has been marred by accusations of poor umpiring and ball tampering by the players of the two teams, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-International-Airlines-c831, that faced each other in
the final.
The five day final was played under lights with an orange coloured ball for the first time in cricketing history. The ICC had sent Dave http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395, the ICC general manager for cricket affairs, to adjudge the prospect of using a coloured ball under flood
lights in international cricket matches.
An ICC representative watching a domestic tournament match was definitely a positive sign for Pakistan cricket, but the tournament faced a distasteful end when the players from both teams protested against the poor standard of umpiring that was witnessed
by many during the match.
Giving his views about the game, the match referee, Anwar Khan, said, "I have never seen such an ugly match in our domestic cricket". The referee had to fine five players from both the competing teams for showing dissent towards the decisions of the umpires
and for abusing each other.
Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Najaf-Shah-c2056 was caught tampering with the ball in the field and was fined by the match referee. Many other bowlers, who had been clearly caught on camera in the same act, went unchecked by the umpires. The manager
of the PIA, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Mohammad-c90091, accused the HBL players of changing the original shape of the ball under the eyes of the field umpires.
"The actual condition of the ball is so bad that it looks as if it has been bitten by scavengers. They were clear marks of nails and it was all scratched up," he said while talking to the media.
He went on to assert, "We are not playing against eleven players- our team is fighting against the 13 players which include the on field umpires as well".
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken notice of Shoaib’s statements and has warned that the former international cricketer could face disciplinary actions because of his outburst in the media.
The PIA coach, Moin http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319, also complained of poor umpiring and ball tampering in the final.
The final was supervised by experienced umpires, Zammer Haider and Riaz-ud-din. The two senior umpires have been heavily criticised of making some terrible decisions in the game. Among the poor decisions made by Zameer Haider was the wicket of PIA’s Fahad
Iqbal, who was adjudged caught behind by the umpire when his bat had clearly missed the ball, in the second innings. The batsman was on 84 when he was wrongly given out.
Another controversial decision involved the wicket of HBL’s opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zameer-Haider-c98559.
HBL won the Quaid-i-Azam trophy by five wickets at National Stadium Karachi in a match that further degraded the image of Pakistan cricket in the eyes of the ICC and the rest of the cricketing world.
