Alleged mastermind of the attacks on the Sri Lankan team released – Cricket News Update
The alleged mastermind of the terror attacks on the touring Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan, Malik Mohammad Ishaq, was released from Kot Lakhpat Jail after the Supreme Court of Pakistan approved his bail.
Ishaq was accused of orchestrating attacks on the Sri Lankan team in the year 2009 when the team was in Lahore, playing a series against Pakistan.
According to details, the prosecution failed to provide any solid evidence connecting the accused with the terror plot, which convinced the court to release the accused terrorist. Insiders have reported that only two witnesses were presented before the court
who claimed to have heard about the terror plot.
Meanwhile, the defence argued that their client had been in jail for nearly 12 years and there was no evidence proving his involvement in plotting a terror attack on the Sri Lankans.
Earlier, investigators had revealed that the attacks were carried out by terrorist to kidnap the Sri Lankan cricketers and then bargain their release with the government of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Sources indicated that the terrorists wanted to secure the release of Ishaq
who had been in jail since 1997, by using Lankan players as leverage on the Pakistan government.
Speaking on the matter, Ishaq’s council, Qazi Misbahul Hassan, revealed that his client had been released in 34 out of 44 cases against him which was testament to the fact that he had nothing to do with terrorism in Pakistan. The lawyer expressed confidence
that Ishaq would be acquitted in the remaining cases as well.
