Alleged victim testifies against former La Porte volleyball coach
Bob Ashcroft, the former La Porte High School assistant volleyball coach, recently sat through a testimony against him by the alleged victim, who recalled the sexual relationship that the two had for several years.
The charges against Ashcroft have been leveled because he supposedly seduced a volleyball player while she was in middle school and started having a sexual relationship with her eventually. Ashcroft is also being accused of engaging in sexual misconduct
with a minor.
According to the victim, who is now 19 years of age, the relationship with the 46 year old coach started off through text messages in which the coach confessed his love for the teenager. The teenager stated that, "He was texting me one evening, and he said
that he loved me. It made me feel really happy. No one other than a family member had ever told me they loved me before."
According to the teenage victim, the interaction between the two came to sexual acts performed at various locations described by the alleged victim. Despite the fact that Ashcroft resigned from his job after parents started raising concerns over the coach,
the communication between Ashcroft and the teenager did not break off. The teenager also denied any past or current sexual contact with the coach once she was brought in for an interview with the La Porte Police. This was done following Ashcroft’s instructions
to keep the matter a secret.
However, the pair was caught by the teenager’s father, who saw them talking in an isolated location. The two were still persistent in continuing the relationship when finally the teenager was called into the police station again for questioning. This time
around, she could not hide the relationship that she had with Ashcroft.
According to Molly Ribordy, who was on the La Porte volleyball team, the interaction between the coach and the alleged victim could not be termed as normal and it came into the notice of the people present around them as well.
The alleged victim will be up for cross-examination on Tuesday when she will be questioned by the Ashcroft’s lawyers.
