A.C Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri, is delighted to see his team on top of the 2011/12 Serie A table and has full backing for Robinho despite his poor finishing against Genoa.
The Italian Champions beat the Marassi club by 2-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Friday, December 2nd, 2011. It was not the easiest of wins for the Rossoneri as they had to struggle to find the back of the net. Zlatan
Ibrahimovic opened the scoring in the 56th minute from the penalty spot while Antonio Nocerino’s 79th minute strike guaranteed all three points for his team.
Milan now atop the league table with a one point lead over Juventus but they have played an extra game. Allegri is delighted with the win and he believes that it is an important victory for the team because the conditions were
not easy to play. The manager is enjoying sitting on top of the table and the fact that a Juventus victory on Sunday will put them back on second spot does not bother the former Cagliari boss.
“We are top for a couple of days, then if Juventus overtake us, we’ll just have to accept it. The important thing was to win in a difficult arena. After going 1-0 up we played well for a few minutes, then gifted Genoa a penalty
and were terrorised for five minutes.”
Striker, Robinho, missed a handful of chances throughout the match but Allegri is not worried about it and believes that it is part of the game. The 44-year-old insisted that the Brazilian had a wonderful match and hailed him for
his contribution in the first goal.
“Robinho contributed to the goal with a great move. I compliment him for his assist in the penalty incident. As for the miss, football is like that, at times you miss incredible chances and at others you score out of nowhere. It
happens.”
Milan have now picked up 27 points from the 13 matches played thus far. However, Allegri has demanded more improvement from his team. The Rossoneri will travel to Bologna for their next league game on Sunday, December 11th,
2011.
