Allegri delighted with win over BATE and aiming for a top spot finish in the group stage
A.C Milan manager, Massimiliano Allegri, is delighted with the win over BATE Borisov and is targeting a top spot finish.
Milan defeated the Belarusian Champions 2-0 in a UEFA Champions League group stage game at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday, October 19th, 2011. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Prince-Boateng-c20792 scored for the Italians
as they atop the Group H.
The Rossoneri are just three points away from confirming their qualification into the next round but Allegri wants his men to finish top of the group. The tactician added that winning the group will help them a lot in the next
round as it will make them play against any of the runners-up of the group stages.
“This evening it was important to win so we could put a deposit down on qualification. Now our objective is to win the Champions League group, as that would be a great result for us.”
Milan have had a slow start to their season and are gradually picking up the pace. Allegri is delighted with the results in the previous two matches and believes that his team is returning to their best. The former Cagliari boss
has backed his players to close the gap on the league table after a poor start to the domestic campaign.
“We are rediscovering ourselves. There is an important month ahead in Serie A and the Champions League, so we need to close in on the top of the domestic table.”
The Italian Champions are currently placed 13th in the league table and have picked up only 8 points from their opening six games of the season thus far.
The 44-year-old also defended the defensive errors made during the BATE game and believes that these things can happen. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-Abbiati-c9046 made amends for the Dutchman’s mistake with
a lovely save from one on one situation.
“These things can happen over the course of a match and Christian Abbiati made a wonderful save. From then on it was fairly smooth sailing, but when things look too easy that is when you can get distracted.”
Milan will play their next game against Lecce on Sunday, October 23, 2011.
