All four teams in the group have picked up a point each from their opening games and it promises to be a tight finish for the knockout round. Allegri knows the importance of finishing top of the group because it will make them
play against any of the runners-up of the group stages.
Allegri said, “We must pick up as many points as possible so we can reach the face-to-face with Barcelona on level terms and gamble it all in that game.”
The former Cagliari boss has urged his players to fight for each and every point and must show the right spirit and attitude to make it happen.
The 44-year-old also warned the players not to repeat the mistakes they have made in the Serie A season thus far. The Rossoneri have picked up only 5 points from their opening 4 league games of the season thus far and have been
far from impressive.
“We must have the right attitude with focus, spirit of sacrifice and good technique, which is what we did at the start of this season regardless of the unfair criticism. We paid a heavy price for some mistakes, but also proved
we can control the tempo, so we’ve got to think positive. It’s important to top the group, as then we’d be able to face one of the runners-up in the next round.”
The tactician believes that the win over Cesena will take them a long way in terms of confidence and will improve the overall performances of his team. However, he has urged his players not to take the opposition lightly.
