Allen Iverson may be headed overseas
It appears Allen Iverson will once again be on the move and this time, it is looking like he will be heading overseas.
On Monday, Iverson’s personal manager Gary Moore issued a brief statement indicating that Iverson is negotiating with Turkish team Besiktas Cola Turka. The two sides are in serious talks
and are working on a one-year deal.
"This team seems very interested in having him come play," Moore said by phone. "Allen absolutely wants to play basketball. He has no hesitation going there if that's the best opportunity
for him."
Moore also said that Iverson was previously looking at the possibility of playing in China and that option is still available. However, playing in Turkey was still the best alternative
outside of the National Basketball Association with Besiktas about to start its season. Moore also stated that Iverson still wants to play in the NBA but has not received any offers to date.
"Anyone that can appreciate the game can appreciate the talents of Allen Iverson,” Moore said.
"He wants to play there again, hopefully."
The 35-year-old Iverson has played 14 seasons in the NBA and is currently ranked 17th all-time on the NBA’s career scoring list tallying 24,368 points during that span.
Iverson was originally drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers with the first overall pick in 1996. Iverson played just over 10 seasons for the Sixers before he was traded to the Denver Nuggets
in the 2006-07 season. Iverson lead the Sixers to the NBA Finals in 2001 where they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in five games. That season, Iverson was also named the league’s MVP. Iverson also spent time with the Detroit Pistons and Memphis
Grizzlies before returning to the Sixers for 25 games last season, but missed the final 27 games of the season due to personal reasons. His numbers have dropped over the past few years, meaning he isn't able to command the kind of money he'd like from prospective
teams.
Iverson has a career average of 26.7 points and has won the NBA scoring title four times.
