Allen Iverson reiterates his desire to make an NBA comeback – Basketball Update
For over a decade, Allen Iverson wowed fans around the league with his outlandish skill on the basketball court. A whole generation of NBA fans grew up idolizing the tricky guard and Iverson became a cultural icon for many people
around the United States of America.
However, his off court issues finally got the best of the player who had to go and play in Turkey last season because no NBA team would come near him. Iverson has now come back to U.S.A and earlier stated his desire to play in
the NBA once again. He has now reiterated his wish and believes that he still has something to offer to the league or any team that is willing to bet on the aging superstar.
“To be back on the biggest stage is my whole thing and I feel like I have a couple more years left in my career and I want to play.”
Iverson was infamous throughout his career for his antics off the court. A player viewed as arrogant by many, because of his non-committed approach to training and perceived self importance on the court didn’t often get along with
coaches and backroom staff.
The level of his play though made him untouchable in his peak years. However, that changed as time went on and Iverson increasingly had to mend his ways or face the wrath of his coaches. The end of his time playing in the NBA was
mainly caused by Iverson’s outrage at being used from the bench. The diminutive dribbler now says he is even ready for that role if it means he would be able to compete again at the highest level,
“I just want to do whatever an organization wants me to do,” Iverson said. “Everybody made a big thing about me not wanting to come off the bench, but I said that at that point because it never happened to me in my life and it
was something new to me, and obviously I didn’t know how to handle it.”
On a different note, Iverson also spoke of his time playing abroad last year. With a number of NBA players now preparing to play overseas due to the lockout, Allen’s insight was naturally sought and the player had only good things
to say about Besiktas, the Turkish club he represented last season,
The fans over there are the best [basketball] fans as far as their energy in the building, maybe even more because they keep going during the timeouts and halftime with the chants and everything. They are really into the game.”
Deron Williams of the New Jersey Nets has already agreed a deal to play for Iverson’s former Turkish club who are also believed to be eyeing Kobe Bryant.
