My 13 month old had a dried apricot the other day and within 5 mins a horrlble blochness appeared all over her muth and one side of her face. Ive heard of berries doing this but apricots? It was the first time she had had one so Im assuming it was the apricot that did it. Has this happened to anyone else?

  1. More likely to be something on the dried apricots.

Maybe sulphites. Look at the packet to see what else has been applied to the product.

  2. so dont feed your kid dried apricots my daughter was alleregic to strawberrys

  3. just dont let her eat anymore apricot's you can be allergic to anything thats why they say to watch young ones when given a new food.

list of mine and my sibs alergies in relationship to food(so you can see how weird allergies can be):

Me: Black olvies, mullberries, and vitiaman D makes things intresting

Becka:Cocunut, mulberries, vitaman D, and pinapple (yes for real).

    Amber:Mullberries,and msg.

    Aaron: mulberries,vitaman D,and msg.

  4. Keep her off apricots entirely. Close members of this family include peaches, nectarines, cherries, plums(inc. prunes) and almonds (marzipan"!)......more distantly related are blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, apples & pears.

Afraid you'll just have to exclude all such fruit pending tests, as a second allergic episode can be fatal.

Get down to the doc as soon as you can, they can get her tested and provide you with remedies in case this happens again.

There are so many allergies about - it's a nightmare. Hope you get it sorted soon.

  5. You have to eliminate the problem, it could very easily be the apricots or it could be something else, like an ingrediant to make it dry up or add ons. You have to sit down with the bag and write everything down on a piece of paper, then go over them one by one until you have crossed off things she has tried before, you will probably be left with only one or two items. The only problem with that is you can develop allergies anytime in your life, you can eat something every single day for a year, wake up and be allergic to it. It sounds crazy I know but not many people know that.  You can develop allergies anytime and you can actually outgrow allergies also. Try apricots again in a year anda half and see if the same thing happens. Have some benadryl on hand always and if she breaks out into a rash, simply give her some, if it goes away she's ok if not, then take her to the ER. Good Luck

  6. If it's dried fruit, she's probably allergic to sulfates/sulfites. They are used as preservatives in dried fruit. I'm 17 and I react the exact same way as you said she did whenever I eat any dried fruits. I am allergic to the sulfates and sulfites, so I can't eat dried fruits (even raisins) anymore.

  7. Read the package of those apricots. They usually put some kind of preservatives on the dried fruits. It may not be the apricots at all. I had an allergic reaction to cinnamon raisin wonder bread. However I can eat the sara lee brand with no problems. Its something in the other bread that I am allergic to.

  8. My sister had an allergic reaction to apricots when she was little.   She swelled up and had blotches too.

The emergency room gave her Benadryl.

My advice is to not let her eat apricots anymore.

  9. You can be allergic to absolutely anything.  I am allergic to Banana's, Oranges and Walnuts.

  10. dont feed it to her! if you carry on doing it then your a bad mom and i will report u to the nspcc!

  11. Yes, my daughter had a reaction like that from strawberries.
