Question:

Allergies in Canada?

I'm going to Montreal and Ontario (Toronto) and Chatauqua, NY. I have very bad allergies (mostly congestion and dizziness) here in NJ that started last June because of stress.

Does anyone know about the allergies in Canada around the end of June?

I'm not sure, but may be allergic to dust, mold, grass and tree pollen. It affects me indoors and out.

  1. no matter where you go there will be dust grass and pollen

  2. The one that bothers me the most in late June and July is ragweed.  Any allergy medication helps.  Ragweed really makes my eyes water, I use Cromolyn eye drops and wrap around frame sunglasses help the pollen from reaching my eyes.  Sometimes I even change my clothes when I come inside.  Grass pollens can be very high at that time of year as well.  We've had a lot of rain so the grass is still growing, pollens will likely be high for a while yet.

Here is the pollen forecast for Toronto:

Edit:  if the link doesn't work, go to the weathernetwork.com there will be a pollen forecast icon to click on their homepage.

  3. Usually tree pollen is not an issue after June, which causes MOST allergies.

Grass pollen in Canada in summer from what I remember exists in the large visible form (like snowflakes) but these dont cause allergies because your body does not mistaken it for bacteria.

As a result, you'll probably be fine.  More likely you will need mosquito repellent depending on where you go.
